11 meter is very quiet?

Yep no dx, just the local ch19 wars. That drunk ass whiskeyman is one hell of a troll.

Bar none, Central Florida is the most depressing AM-19 in the USA.

I was hearing the riff-raff going after some troll endlessly a few weeks ago in Detroit. Thought it was local. Still don’t really know. Same guys.

Nothing but talk about the others.

It’s like being again in 5th grade, stuck with kids you can’t stand (for good reason).

Have turned radio nearly off most days since arriving Thursday as I get back into or before leaving the Lakeland area on round-trips to both coasts down south.

Don’t hear anything after dark (0900 yesterday, “gotta go wee-wee and get another beer”), as TV-time is here!

I don’t know who pays these idiots, but if it ain’t tedious, it’s just mouth-flapping. Nothing said. F’n non-stop. No truckers around. Just some cheats on disability with alcoholism brain-damage.

Proud to be stupid.

0500-0600 EDT (Central FL) the scanner has some drivers on other than AM-19. Makes sense. Line-haul guys, or local bulk hauling (is my guess).

Florida is a state where, if by some freak everyone in the state died one night, the rest of the country wouldn’t notice for about two weeks.

Virtually nothing is made here. Ag crops & livestock are it. Truck loads come in to service retail (dist. centers), and leave with sometimes nothing at all. Deadhead north (empty truck) to get a load.

State exists on transfer payments. That washes into hands of transnationals (biggest recipients of welfare money; NOT local economy).

Explains much about the dearth of CB activity in the, what, third or fourth largest state? Several tens of millions.

No one’s making a living, here. (In effect). Low wages generated by giant corps that comes right back to them. Taco Bell Team Leader buying gasoline & groceries at Wally. Surface churn, not wealth creation.

The rest of personal income is government subsidy.
Take that away and it fails completely.

If Florida were a country it couldn’t support itself. (The other Southern states have far lower transportation costs on competitive agriculture).

Want to ship 21-tons of something via truck? Figure above $2/mile. Miami to Atlanta is more than 600-miles. From ATL to the rest of the USA it’s multiples of that. (Buh-bye profit; what can you make in FL can’t be made the same cost elsewhere?). Otherwise it’s rail, ship, or barge. Huge volume needed, or bust.

Made a contact into S.Africa this afternoon 44RFI103 Chris. Totally out of the blue, not on the grey line.. more like 16:00 in the afternoon. Right place right time and most likely with a power station at the other end. Very short lived opening, he was speaking to multiple French stations as well.

The reason drivers arent on 19 in cent fla is because of the Whiskeyman and friends show. Whiskeyman in plant city will piss off Mr cb and he will throw a tone carrier for 30 or 40 minutes at a time using a small fet amp. Each one has their followers so it gets pretty interesting some days. Whiskeyman was going for a 72 straight hour record this weekend but fell short when he unexpectedly passed out during a break on Sunday. Hes one hell of a troll...

Always 11m for me, that is where I hang out. There is no certainty ever when it comes to the F2 layer prop on 11m especially at this low point (which may well be now slowly be coming out of) but it offers a glimmer of hope there is light starting to shine from the 11 year tunnel. No sun spots there so maybe some kind of flare/emissions that came to us? Something seemed to be interacting the the right layers albeit for a short time... he was only about for 15 - 25mins and then poof...........he was gone.

your voice wasnt loud nuff haha ,skip is funny hear far off places loud n clear but 1500 watts wont hit them but guy up tge street on 35 watts talks to em???

It is weird for sure, but there will always be some explanation for the phenomena experienced. It is just that we won't be finding that out precisely ! You can have a guess though, I love to think these things through as part of the hobby, often when I cannot get out for radio time. Here are a few things to consider that might make your hypothetical example come about...

It might be 35 Watts into a beam with 10-13dB of gain. (focusing that 35 Watts precisely where it needs to be. Where as your 1.5KW will be subject to the inverse square law being spread equally across your antennas omni directional pattern. (less microvolts per area of space)

Your antenna has a null at the angle required to make that contact.

The footprint of the dx coming down from the sky over the land could be at a fringe reception area where your QTH is... 40 miles up the road might be ok.

The spot in the atmospheric cloud/ionized patch may be rotating the polarization of your signal to be the opposite of the RX station meaning something to the order of a 15-20dB loss (I think). The other station not so.

And other general skip thoughts...

One station gets to destination with 4 hops and another 7 hops, due to incident angles/antenna setup.. each hop will take its toll on the signal strength attenuating it influencing what is RX'd at the other end.

Some stations you can hear very clearly but they have deaf RX or QRM on their RX end, so only a significantly stronger station will get through.

Some stations TX and RX may be influenced by more localized tropospheric effects before it hits the E or F2 layer.

I very much like to consider these and try and visualize things, fascinating.

Also I cannot quite get my head around the moment I key up that signal is radiating at the speed of light into the sky the distant horizon I am looking at and bouncing multiple times and ending up at some far flung destination within a miniscule split second... where someone just happens to be listening. Mind blowing when you think about it... makes you feel pretty damn cool, right..

The amount of times I wondered about how many hops any given contact took to be made and how wide the RF footprint was when it came down to earth... 40, 50, 200, 300, 400, 500, 600 miles footprint beaming out of the sky at some other country. Talk about an interesting hobby, that we chose !

I also like the thought of the signal doing say... 6 hops and the person who comes back to you might be at hop 1,2,3,4,5, or 6.

Radio DX is fantastic... it's as deep as your own mind allows.
