11 meter is very quiet?

I seem to have been in a sweet spot this evening. I was on from 4:30 to around 6, and I wasn't getting the typical train wreck conditions. All I heard were a few solid stations and easily got back to them. Lots of contacts and several good qso's. Most were from the NE and NW part of the US, and North Carolina.
It was a nice surprise!

The band is a loud train-wreck all day long, but the late afternoon conditions from here to Australia & Hawaii have been amazing all this week. Lots of contacts with folks from down there recently.........

I also had late-evening short skip to Southern California, Utah, & Colorado a few days ago as well as a rare backscatter condition that enabled me to talk to a semi-local who's about 70 air miles from me, but on the other side of a very high mountain range.

last nite made me think back to the 70s,people were chatting local in diffrent areas but they were far and wide. 1 wasnt feeling great 2 tried to get to loudest no dice. just set n fell sleep.woke about 1 still chatting. wish it was like that, local chats in all areas

The thunder and lightning shook me out of bed this morning. Heavy rain here today so no radio until it blows over. Usually these things take about an hour and I should be on the air by mid-morning. Gonna hang on 37L and 35U. Maybe I can hook up with you WDX guys on 35. Hope so.

JJ, I hope the storms pass soon and without incident. I will call on 35U throughout the day, been consistently reaching Scotland and the UK this morning on 37L and have been swinging the beam towards Columbia every so often. If conditions permit, I look forward to making that contact with you. 73s.

Was talking to my locals last night, all within 10-15 miles. About 9:40pm all hell broke loose. Suddenly it was a pile up that sounded like 100 radios all keying up at the same time. I made one contact to W. Virginia, after that it was all north and south Carolina. Every single radio was calling for one of us locals. It got so bad that even at 600w, none of us could hear or talk to each other anymore. Haven't been hit with skip that crazy in a long time.

Best long distance traffic in the early morning (5AM to 10AM MT) ..... Local traffic 24/7...
Years ago I used to stick a mobile antenna up on my roof to talk all over local area... I've used 102" steel whip w/ barrel spring & swivel ball for mobile since 1969... Works great on the roof too....

How I do it today....
I use a A99 on a 20' pole on the house and I hear all kinds of traffic.... I get on SSB in the mornings and talk to people all over the USA.. I'm central Arizona and this morning (LSB37&38) I get a contact in Alberta Canada, Tennessee, Florida and Alabama... Using a wore out Radioddity QT60 (24watts) on LSB37.... I got on Ch19 AM and talked to a guy in Georgia a few days ago early morning.... My 8 watt Uniden El Cheapo gets me all over locally (20-30miles) in my mobile using a 102" whip.....
*Then there's "11 meter ~ Freebanding" (global contacts) but that's for another day......
SWR's are 1.2 Base and 1.1 Mobile using LMR400 coax... I get my watt/swr numbers from a Dosy 4001-P... I also use a Stick Pro to check swr's and coax function...
The QT60 is an Export type CB ~ Uniden is stock AM/FM ....

We haven't heard from @Tweetybird in quite a while. No it's not quiet now. But it will be again.

So, 11 meters in my part of the world "Today..." ;)

Lots of contacts made this morning, then I was back on at 4:00 cst and the craziness chased me up to 39. But once I made it there I had some good qso's. I made contact with a lot of guys I haven't heard in almost a year or more.
Not a bad day of DX.
