11 meter is very quiet?

38 lsb seems to be the only one coming in even my Lincoln II+ is pulling it in. But haven't had much time to explore because getting my little Cobalt ready for my Road Trip tomorrow down to American Eagles stomping ground. Time to get the plug out of my ear and maybe catch someone on the waves with my Q6Pro. I'll have time to set in the hospital parking lot and hopefully 37lsb will be opened up. But just to let you know I Won't Hold My Breath. LOL

I was in the shop working on my 139XLR, and monitoring 37LSB on my quad 6 pro. I could hear stations in there, but they were covered up by the 3-5 S-units of noise that this rig generates. Turned to 39LSB , and recorded a few seconds, note that I had the Receive DNR, NB, and the Hi-Cut all on.
I will add the recording tomorrow when I'm on my desktop.

Was a total wash out for me today. I'm going to be like Eldorado 828 and not even bother turning a radio on so I can get some projects done ,leading to me dropping my antenna down for some fine tuning. Gotta get the system ready for fall. Plus with all the rain we have been having the lawn is going like crazy.

It's been the same for several days up here now. Periods of nothing then an hour or two of skip from somewhere, often with big signals. Then another period of time with nothing, and then another opening to some other place....
Today I talked to lots of Florida, Alabama, and N&S Carolinas, as well as one New York City station. Later in the day there was some Cali and Arizona. Voices still bubbling in and out of the static right now at 8pm including some Aussies.

Kind of mediocre conditions but no still no problem making contacts. The trick is to be persistent and call CQDX a lot even if the band sounds dead......often there's conditions to somewhere and somebody will come back to me!
I also find that when conditions get like this everybody tends to congregate back on channel 37 and especially channel 38. There's a lot less folks on the upper frequencies these days.

Turned on the Q6 PRO. Heard Dr. Dx out of Tx. Shouted out to him and his reply was covered up by noise. Then heard 7787 out of Washington state calling for me. Hooked up for a nice two minute QSO. Propagation was strong enough for him to get over the Q6's noise. Notice that I was using Receive DNR, NB, and HI-CUT and still had 4-S units of racket. I have had several Q6 PRO operators tell me they have noisy receive too . Ruins an otherwise really GREAT radio for me.
Still, a solid 6100Km (3700Mi.) hookup late in the afternoon.

My McKinley after riding in my Cobalt all winter out in the cold seem to start acting a little strange. I had to start adjusting the clarifier a little to understand people and before it was rock solid on center. ( No Touch radio ) Might be too early to tell but have to get it on the bench.

Did not get on the air today, as I spent most of the time adding additional metering to the 139XLR to better understand what's going on in its circuitry. And, I removed two earlier mods that have shown to be overkill. Then I added a ferrite toroid choke to the antenna input of my Quad6PRO in hopes of reducing the 3-4 S-units of receive noise that this rig is generating. Didn't get everything done, but should have it completed tomorrow morning. Hope to be back on the air tomorrow afternoon. 73.
