11 meter is very quiet?

Finally made contact with Vietnam! 242TW001 on 27.580USB. Just barely made the trip though......bad QRM on both sides. I figured I had a good chance after DX Man worked the same guy a few nights back. 150 watts and a homemade horizontal delta loop.

Heard everything from Alaska to Australia to Indonesia to Phillipines & Hawaii for about 30 minutes after that, then the band died a fast death.

have imissed much ? been busy n knobs grew dusty in off position
Not much here, an occasional loud station that I can hear. The rest are way down in the grass, but I can still hear them because my noise floor is s1. It used to be s5 to s7, so I am enjoying it while it lasts...

Hit and miss out here on the west coast. Conditions have been excellent in the late afternoon/early evening for a couple hours, but kinda ho-hum the rest of the day.
Still making lots of contacts though, mostly on 36 LSB and 26805 FM.

Seems as if dx has tapered down a little but I've been busy so I'm hoping it's only a short term thing. I can't remember when it starts tapering off for the summer. But spring is around the corner and that means getting all the lawn equipment ready. Right now it is vehicle problems. Oh well I'm glad I can still do it !

Yesterday was a little better.
Around 11:30 am W. coast time, Harold from Finland came across the N. Pole, we yakked for about 3 min's.

Then around 4:15 pm hooked up with Mike again in Vietnam, we had a good qso with signals S7. Then a few minutes later a station from Japan gave me a call and also hooked up with a station briefly in Hong Kong.

Then there were the usually ones coming from Guam and Western Kiribati that I gave a short hello to.

Today wasn't that great but I did manage to squeeze out a Nebraska contact in my mobile Q6 Pro with no extra help. And I think that might have been my first Nebraska ever. But sometimes I think I might have a problem with patience and expect too much. LOL

I'm with you buddy on the spring thing. We're getting the same crap up here in the NE corner. I was happy to start seeing bare ground after our warm up ! GRRRRR and the DX forecast has been poor for the past 4-5 days. Can't wait to say Goodbye to Feb. But good luck today anyway.

You guys put way too much significance on the DX forecast! I've made some very very good contacts in the last 4-5 days in spite of the bad DX forecast. I've made it to 90 countries now and hoping to get to 100 before this cycle is done.

What I've noticed is that the skip has gone very "long". Yesterday and the day before I had very little in the way of signals from within North America, but stations way down in Southern Brazil, Argentina and Chile were booming in all day long, and the skip to Asia in the evening has been spectacular for several days now.

With the "long" F2 skip rolling, now is a perfect time to broaden your DX horizons and seek those stations from distant foreign lands that are booming into North America every day! By the way, getting off the regular 40 and going up above and switching to USB mode helps with that........

I have noticed sometimes what you are saying is true and a lot of times I have so many projects waiting for me maybe I give up too easy and move on to get something done. And when the band is Rocking & Rolling sometimes I get covered up because maybe I lack experience and don't have my system set up as good as it could be. I bowed out of radio many years ago because of other obligations and it's only since I retired that I've started to learn about talking DX and setting up SSB radios. My hope is to finish my projects, sellout this old nag of a house and maybe have more time to travel and devote to radio. My Mom use to call it Pipe Dreams. LOL Yeah and as you get older & more crippled you tend to set on your butt more. I also have a bunch of old computers and hard drives with info on them I want to condense and set one up for re-recording music from different sources. That's another passion that took me away from radio for awhile. Too many Irons in the Fire. But I never get bored !

  • @ Hambones amps:
Does anyone know if you can replace the 2290 in a galaxy dx 93t twin turbine with a 2sc2879 red dot? If so, what would have to be tuned?
  • @ ShadowDelaware:
Hambones the entire amp section would have to be retuned, and the rf transformers re wrapped.
