Dug out some old Class C 2SC2879 2 pills I built back in 2003. Did not realize they are non Red Dots till I opened the amps up. They are. So what should I do with them? I'm not planning on building or running any "Comp" boxes, I'd hate to build something with these when I could sell them for an exorbitant amount of money to someone that WOULD use them for their comp box. What should I do, what would you do?

New from rf parts toshibas are $100 so maybe $50 used. Not really an exorbitant amount. You might do better selling as is, you might do better that way. Let em fight it out in the ebay auction pit lol

RF parts no longer has Non Red Dot 2SC2879's. The Red Dots are $100 each. From what I hear the non Red Dots are worth $200 each to comp box guys that are going to run them to their limits. I need to sell them, for $200 each or maybe a little less for all 4, so I can invest in some of the other stuff in my shack. I won't do eBay, only in person for these, tested in person, working, cash only. I don't fight with Paypal, after running about a Million dollars through there over the course of about 14 years, I learned my lesson, they can kiss my ass.

If you know someone who wants them, they can get in touch with me via PM, we can meet up, and they can test them/authenticate them in person. They are legit, but I ain't looking to do any warranty or have any arguments if they pop them, that's on them.

I thought I had seen $200/each at one point and the next time I went back it changed and I see why.
I dont know anyone here who at this point pay that much for a used 2879. I just bought a 4x2879 stickman built non red dot amp for $250 and spent another $150 to straighten it out so $400 total for a totally refurbished amp.
I know you wont do ebunk and I don't blame you but thats the only place I know of where someone might pay what you want.

Paying more for non red dot pills is like buying oxygen free speaker wires.

They were matched at one time but testing them is the only way to prove they still are.

Maybe so, but I ain't trying to be logical about it, nor would I pay that much for them (I am not a keydown guy) just whatever the market supports. Would be glad to meet up with someone that wants them in person, bring your own tester if you want, if you like you buy, simple as that, if not, no hard feelings, I just don't want the eBay/Paypal nightmare, been there done that, got the t shirt. Serious inquiries only, in person, cash only.

A friend is parting out an old 48 pill non red dot and is happy to get $100 each for used high gain 2879's. 50 percent of new is what they seem to go for in my neighborhood.

If I could get $200 for used transistors then sign me up. I’ll start stripping down amps today. Lol.

I like having the real McCoy but not if they’re worth that much.

As for 543’s comment...I never had a lick of issue with Red Dots, even when running them all the wrong ways.

I hear that, and I have never had a problem with the Red Dots either. But there's always THOSE people that think they have to have the most expensive bestest thing available, I just need to find those people, and make a sale, and put that money into some other stuff in the shack, because I have no need for the non Red Dots either.

There's a working 6 pill 2879 for $645 obo on ebunk so I can see $75-$100 maybe for used if they are tested and the testing documented.
Yeah there are fakes but those sellers are usually easy to spot. Unless you pull them, test them and document the testing its best I think to sell the amp whole also.

When I meet up with someone who really wants them I'll bring them in the amps they can test them that way, and then I'll plug my damn Hakko 472B into a power inverter and remove them for them on spot. Not doing eBay. I have NEVER had so many problems with selling stuff on eBay, EXCEPT radio stuff, it's like all the sorry scamming smucks in the radio world are on eBay. And I ain't talking just about the fake transistor guys, which I think they should be shot on site, I am talking about the buyers, and the sellers. I haven't eBay'd any radio related items since 2017, and after having problems with a few of the sales (luckily I didn't get part swapped scammed, I raised hell with them people), I said I'd never eBay a radio related item ever again, and I'm sticking to that. I live near Houston, anyone want to meet up anywhere around here within reason 100 miles or so, I drive escort so long drives don't bother me much, PM me, got some nice barely used non Red Dots for you. I doubt I'd take the $100 each, I'll just sit on them for that for a while, but closer to $200 each, sure.
