2 Meter Sideband

They worked pretty good, but you know how that goes... Always striving for something better.. David, one of the engineers that worked at Cushcraft before MFJ took over, gave me some dimensions for a 13B2 in order to optimize it for the bottom of the band.. I built that one and had it at about 70 - 75 feet.. At the time I was living on the Gulf Coast of Texas.. In a period of about 4 years, numerous hurricanes and tropical storms took aim at my area.. I lost several antennas in 2005 and them some more in 2008.. The last antenna was a 17B2. That antenna survived with about 1/2 the elements breaking.. I took everything down, sold all my real estate and moved about 150 miles north to Anderson County in east Texas.. I haven't built a "major" station since then.. At the present time, I am mostly inactive.. I putter around on HF but I'm 82 years old and fighting lots of medical issues..

Come spring I plan to make some changes to the tower...finally! For about 2 years I've had a Innovantennas 13 el LFA in the box. With work and kids sports I just haven't found the time. I'm making time next year to get it done. It will sit slightly lower on the mast but I'm hopeful the lfa design and 26ft boom makes up for that. Will also be adding mast mount preamp. I will update when it's installed and do some comparisons between my old 13b2 and the lfa tx/rx with my semi-local guys..

Blackcat, At 28 feet, even with equal number of elements, that lfa will have about 3dB on the 13B2.. Unless there is a drastic difference in height, it should definitely out perform the 13B2.. Keep us posted on the results.
