Nomads manual digital signal injector should confidently determine if the audio IC is good or not. The recap is a good idea though.
Sometimes, when totally unrelated things mysteriously fail (like your tx audio), I usually find that I was too tired and not realized I turned my mic gain down for a different test. I know my washington's mic gain pot is on its way out too and I have to watch the needle when I tx because it likes to completely drop out if slightly bumped.
