Been using the radio for a couple of weeks on both am and ssb. I am using an Icom SM-30 mic and no mods to mic or radio. Plug and Play. lol the radio sounds great on am and ssb good reports from all. Easy to operate and simple to use.Receive is excelent and the filter on SSB is a big plus. Was on 10 meters with a friend trying out new equipment and asked how I sounded reply " real good ! " he thought I was on my K-wood TS-480sat.
Radio is set up Base, power supply and Sirio New Tornado. The Radio really shines on SSB and is 100% stable no drift. Talked for 2 hrs straight with a few breaks and no re-tune or adjust. Two thumbs up

Let the bad wagon roll. Just buy them from the actual dealer in NZ. It's worth it IMO. If I were to buy one right now it is where I would get it from. Screw savings a few dollars!! I think the increase in price is made up by a better mic and a thorough tune and alignment if needed as well as the warranty directly from the dealer and not through a 3rd party company per say. Those that know what I speak of will understand this. At any rate glad to see this radio still kicking ass over many of the new radios being offered if not all of them!! Just what I have been seeing. At any rate, all those optima fan boys, have fun using it!! Awesome SSB radio, bottom line!!

Love the new Optima!!! I bought the Icom SM-30 mic to use on the radio,Also on my Icom ID-880h radio with the use of a 8 pin to modular adpt. I have the REA modulation monitor and I love it. I connect my head phones and the Monitor plays back my audio so I can adjust levels. I try to adjust mic gain on the mic also on the radio many different ways. I can hear back round noise no matter what I do. and also with the stock mic. (that also sounds good). Is there a good noise canceling mic like the RK-56 I could use with good results on this radio. or do I have to use a mic that uses power from the mic.
