we have both fo these radios. both work well, however, no matter if you use the built in speaker or an external speaker they dont sound all that great on ssb. it almost sounds like theres a dsp running or the filter isnt wide enough. anyone else notice this? is there a cure? biggest downfall of this radio to me

A few locals around here have the Lincoln 2+, and they sound excellent to me on SSB. I don't use speakers on my radios. Always use headphones.

I used a Lincoln for a while. I did not have any problems with the audio quality. My only issue was the adjacent channel rejection. It picked up bleedover like crazy.

My Radioddity QT60 TX audio sounds compressed and slightly crunchy on SSB. Sent it in for repair, the tech couldn't find any issues. I have tried everything...different mics, different power supplies... but it won't go away. Everyone who reports on my audio, always asks if I'm running a big enough power supply. If 75A won't do it, nothing will. I don't use it anymore, which is a shame because it's such a nice radio that's dead on frequency.

I get nothing but good audio reports running a first gen Anytone 5555n2 with the stock mic. The receive audio in sideband mode is excellent too. As good or better than both my Cobra 148GTL and Kenwood TS-140S. The filters could be a little tighter to help with adjacent channel splatter, but that's a very minor gripe.

As far as the Lincoln 2+.... a friend has one and he was very unhappy with the SSB receive audio on it. It tended to sound overloaded on all but the weakest signals. So you had to run it with the RF gain way low...........
This is supposedly a known problem with the 2+. Its transmit audio was excellent.

It would be a very easy decision for me. 5555n2 wins hands down. YMMV.

A fix for the Lincoln receive was found a while back.
That's great, but I tend to avoid any radio that I have to get "fixed" or "peak and tuned" before I can use it. It's the reason I avoid Ranger, Galaxy and Connex products like the plague (and now President too).
It's like buying a new car and then having to get it towed to a shop for expensive work before you can even drive it!
Any fix for crunchy/compressed TX audio on SSB?
If you are referring to your 5555N2, then no. I'm not aware of anyone else having that problem with an Anytone or Radioddity radio. You may have just got a bad one. FWIW, I run my 5555N2 and a Palomar 200 amp off the same 36 amp supply and have no issues at all........

In having this issue with the QT 60, I'm reminded as to why I always used HF radios over a regular CB or import 10 meter rigs.

I was very hesitant to buy it, now I know why.

It's strange how it exhibits bad TX audio, yet no one can find anything wrong with it. Yet, it sounds fantastic on AM and FM.

No more 'Made in China' radios for me.

QT-60 is the same radio as the 5555N2.
Never heard of anyone having audio issues with either one, though I don't doubt it's possible to mess it up with the service menu (which I stay away from).
I think you may have just got a bad radio. Radioddity warranties what they sell, have you contacted them about getting a replacement radio ?

I know that in the Galaxy style radios, if the AM limiter is cut, it will make SSB unusable. Does it have this problem with the mic gain turned down?

Edit:
Also makes me think that the bias of the finals is not high enough.

I haven't messed with the mic gain settings much.
Factory setting is 25.
I got it set at 20.

I haven't been in the service menu at all.

No limiters have been messed with.

Yes, I sent it in a month ago for warranty repair, but he couldn't find anything wrong with it.

So I'm pretty much stuck with a radio that's useless on SSB.

Things to check..... Are you doing these tests with the stock mic? Is the mic setting in the menu set to the correct microphone type? When you sent the radio in and they said it was fine, was that with the same mic you are using at home?

Also, when testing audio I always keep menu item 22 (TX NR) OFF, keep Talkback (or whatever they call it) OFF, and turn any echo OFF. Having any of these on when mic testing is just throwing more variables into the equation.......

For the test, the radio needs to be barefoot, with the stock mic, into a dummy load (NOT an antenna as CMC's on the coax can cause all kinds of audio problems). Listen on a monitor radio with no antenna; it will get more than enough signal if its close to the dummy load.

If it sounds fine barefoot, but stinks when the amp is on then you have an amp bias problem. If it sounds fine on a dummy load but like shit with the antenna hooked up, you have a CMC problem.........meaning an antenna or coax problem somewhere.

It sounds crunchy, same as always barefoot, on other radios with a dummy load attached...I think it's just a junk radio, honestly.
Waste of money.
It sounded fine for a few months, but something went wrong.
