Anytone Ares 2

I hate to say it but the cost of a new qt-40 or aries-II may be less than repair labor by someone with tools and skill for smd work if it is more than blown finals. If the chip that keys the radio off of the mic input is damaged the radio will be unrepairable for reasonable cost.
QT-40 was $160 for a while, but back up to $200 now. My bench rate per hour, is more than half the cost of a new radio. Yeah, I'm not cheap, nor are shipping costs. But, you get what you pay for.

About how much would it cost to replace the LSB AM USB switch in an old Cobra 139XLR, and tune it up?

Is this radio ares 2 and the qt40 going to have a short frame too like the others have gone to.

@Pez maybe you know something about it.
The ARES 2 might get an update in the future, but it won't be for a while. It might look something like the ARES VI concept, but it could also include the TFT display as used in the AT-900PRO. There will be more TFT screen use in models like this going forward.

That's a sharp looking radio! Classic look ala Cobra 148 et al. but with modern electronics.

I will buy one if they ever become reality, but ONLY if Anytone has put a decent quality channel selector encoder on it.......the selectors on both my 5555N2 and 6666 went to shit within a couple months of being new and are now pretty much useless. I now have to use the mic buttons to change channels/frequencies, which is fine except I'm limited to using the stock mic!
My Cobra 148GTL on the other hand is from the early 1990's and the channel selector is still as good as new even though it's been turned about a million times.

That's a good looking radio, reminds me alot of the cobra 200gtl dx.
I was just curious if they would shorten the ares 2 and if they were I'd wait until then because the shorter frame works better for a future install.

Thanks

I cracked the Service Menu. I also performed a hardware NPC mod which works on with factory NPC from carriers below 6 watts. There's still some stuff to work out but I have the radio usable now with great audio. I have some videos on Facebook. I also show the scope. Feel free to flame away, seems that's all I get when I mentioned the nasty old NPC mod.
Panic Attack
Where do I add the npc k9d the the ares II ?

My ares 2 has too much audio restriction with or without a power mic I gotta scream into my microphone and nobody can hear me

In this video, he goes into the service menu from the buttons on the front of the radio. He is able to adjust the frequency, but doesn't show how to do it. But if you listen carefully, you can hear him do it. If we can figure out what the buttons and switches sound like, we might have something.....
