Just watch a video about a guy changing a jumper inside the Q6Pro to open up it's 15 meter capability and just makes me wonder. So he gained the 15 meter band but what did he lose by not leaving the jumper where it was ?

You gain all and lose nothing. Same with the Anytone Ares II radio. Move the jumper to expand it.

Thanks for the reply and your probably right. But it just doesn't make sense to me anyway. Why wouldn't the factory do it right from the start for marketing reasons ?

If you go to the at-6666 pro thread, all the answers are there.
The 15 meter is just an extra because they could.

This is usually done due to the rules in the various countries in which it is sold.

In the US, Canada, and western Europe it is only legal to sell with 10 meters enabled and nothing else. In most of the rest of the world it can legally be sold with 10, 11, & 12 enabled. As Shadetree mentioned, 15 is considered bonus coverage.

Well I'm sure you guys would figure it out. I still haven't had time to exploit mine yet because of unfinished work around here & Old Man Winter with Mother Nature playing their games with Me ! LOL

There are no 'quirks or bugs'. 15m was added because it was technically possible, without compromising any of the radio's 10m/12m performance.

The only downside to this, is that the 15m band RX sensitivity and the TX output power is reduced, because it is getting towards the limits of what the hardware is capable of.

NO specifications are quoted, and NO performance guarantees are made for anything other than the 10m band. It is a 10m radio. Everything else is bonus

I am wondering why they didn’t program the frequencies 21.000 to 30.000 for example in this order instead of breaking it up into bands that is not in order ? I think it would be much easier on changing frequencies in order instead of clicking the band many times before you get what you’re looking for. Is there anyone else think like I do and agree ?

I forgot to explain this is on the 6666pro cps 2.02 I know the 6666pro cps 2.05 isn’t like this but I use the 2.02 cps because I modified the radio to work on the 15 meter band.

Look at it this way, this radio is really an export radio and marketed to the CB and freeband users. How many of those users freeband below 26 MHz or above 30 MHz where radio's like the RCI 2950 can go? Practically nobody does except users who don't understand the concept.

Have you made many contacts above 30 MHz or between 25 and 26 MHz?

I'm assuming you may know this but for others reading, To transmit above 30mHz and down to 25 mHz means you are transmitting well above/below the range of common CB antennas and to free band at 21.453 thru 26 Mhz is even way too far out of range. Sure a tuner can be used but the effective radiated power (ERP) will drop off significantly. Better off using another antenna for those frequencies or retuning the current antenna. Remember, the Ham band on 15 meters is 21.000 - 21.450 Mhz and on 12 meters is 24.890 to 24.990 Mhz using USB also where you can listen all you want.

I have the 6666 pro and being licensed and having a 6 band antenna, I tried it out on 15 meters. On that band the radio still does a respectable power output near 40 watts and was able to make some contacts.

As for the radio setup, I'm good with it cycling bands by repeatedly pushing the band button to get to a band I want to use. I can get to the 15 or 12 meter band fairly quick and don't see the need for the frequencies between 21.5 Mhz and 24 Mhz and have more band letter segments. I too did notice the band letters go out of sequence with 12 and 15 meters so I just watch the frequency display and ignore the band letters. This also coincides the fact this radio is marketed to freebanders who are more familiar with export radios where band "A" starts at 25 MHz just like many if not all the other export radio's do.

They are definitely out of sequence. I bought this radio to install in my side by side because it is not as expensive as my other ham radios I have . I am also a licensed ham operator. I have a General class license for the moment. So I would use the 15 meter frequencies along with the 10 and 12 meter frequencies that our license allows us to use. I urge all those that want to use these bands mentioned to get their ham license. Thank you for your input. God bless and have a blessed day.
