Keep in mind, there is two different versions of the uniden 980. The first version was made from about 2011 or 2012 to about 2014ish, the second version from about 2015 ish to present. So depending on the year your radio was made, the boards maybe labeled differently.

I just went out and played with mine again, it's been awhile but now I remember why I didn't use it much....You can't drop your DK and get full swing for driving an amp, DK set at 5 watts swings to 14 watts. DK @ 1 watt swings to @7 watts BUT......peaked out, the back of the radio gets UNGODLY hot.

I had a 2014 uniden 980, it was only doing 6 watts on side band, when I turned it up to 12 watts the back of the radio would get hot, so I set it at 10 watts, and then I gave it to a friend, who didn’t own a Ssb cb radio,

A little while back I bought a brand new, uniden 980 made in 2019, it’s doing 11.5 watts right out of the box, so I haven’t felt any need to take the covers off the radio and mess with anything. And the back of this radio does not get hot, even if I talk on for a minute or two.

I did an NPC mod on a 980 a few years ago and direct injected . The direct inject needed a 50dB pad. I can’t recall the points but I traced the foil runs and made jumper wires from there.
