Plug it in ,plug it in was looking at a small 2 pill you name it, SSB and am and 2879's or SD1466 or 2290's Mosfets perhaps What are your thoughts Galaxy 99 V2 cobra 148 and Uniden washington

Heck...Check on eBay at some of the tube box's. I picked up a "Kicker 500" a couple of years ago there for $300, and it swings around 500w's... IMO the tube box's work a little better on SSB to...but that's just me

I also have a X Force 1x4 bass amp which does do more than 500w's on AM, but everyone tells me the tube box sounds allot better on SSB.

lookint at amps from X-Force. Three base amps each 2 pill wondering what amp would be best foe The DX-99 V2 SD-1446, 2290, or 2879 not worried about the price. but not sure what the difference is besides the watts out... a friend has the 2290 and the reason is he uses it as a driver for a 6X 2879 I just want a 2 pill to run by itself.

Get a TNT 600HD. Then you don't have to worry about blowing anything up with a dual final export. The 350HD might work, but will be pushed hard. The newer amps don't offer Toshiba transistors anymore and the DEI transistors just aren't as forgiving or rugged as the Toshiba's. Bit with that radio a straight 4 pill would work great and not be over driven. JMHO.

Sorry didn't realize this was for base amp. But the same rules apply! Get a straight 4 pill. You'll be way happier in the end. And it will last a lot longer not being overdriven.

Don't bother going above 100W. Spend the money you've saved on a beam instead.

The effective radiated power of 100W going into a Moxon beam gives a signal to a DX station almost the same as in not even a single S point difference as 1500W going into a vertical base antenna.

Antenna system first then power. You'll usually find that if you get the absolute best out of the first you don't need the second.

#1 build a better antenna or #2 push more watts to make up for the inefficiency.

Unfortunately I am at the #2 problem, I need to make up for the inefficient radiator via amp. cant put anything big.

I was looking at the X-force MF400 amp it seems like a decent little amp AB2, small and powered by its own supply.

Ameritron AL-811H just seems like a huge behemoth and I dont need so much power.

Whats the difference between Mosfet and pills?

Xforce uses 4 mosfets for its MF400 amp, they also sell amps with 2 pills etc..

The terms AB1 & AB2 refer to tube amplifiers as far as grid current and grid voltage. That said X-Force does not build anything in class AB, the best you can get for SSB use would be the class B TnT line. Most of their amplifiers are class C.

A Moxon for 11m band measures just 12ft x 4ft and 30ft in the air looks very small. Whilst your amp makes up for an inefficient radiator it cannot make up for the fact that the very same inefficient transmitting antenna is also a very inefficient receiving antenna. No point being able to get to them if you can't hear them.

Old Zap is building them. I believe the quality of X-Force Amps may be on the rise. Most people don't get that the DEI 2879 transistors aren't direct drop in replacements for the Toshiba 2879. Different things have to be done. It would be nice if they would make the TNT amps Class AB with some thermally tracking biasing. It just costs too much money and time to do it. The price of the Amps would go up, but you would get a better amp in the end. We can all dream can't we LOL!!!

If only I can get an antenna 30 feet up. my 102inch whip is invisible, its painted light blue and its about 12-14 feet high. limited placement locations. It has a good counterpoise. its a low Q antenna pretty wide band but now I can talk to all the locals no issues.

I have my X-Force 4 pill base amp up for sale. AB biased with thermal tracking and input tuning. $350.00 plus shipping. The power supply is a computer supply, so the amp itself isn't very heavy, so shipping would be reasonable.

~Cheers~
