Big switching power supplies - what's the forum favorite?

Any special concerns with stacking, or just simply parallel the outputs?

I like to match my voltage when I stack them, I would think there might be issues if you dont. MegaWatts are nice units.

I've an Astron RM-50M under my desk. It does the job year after year. No RF hash and no fan noise. I detest fan noise, especially if it is continuous. Some switchers are temperature activated while others run the fans continuously. Those that have a tiny fan may sound like they're ready for takeoff!

I've a Samlex installed in a TKR-750 repeater that I'm testing here. Its fan is temperature controlled and the power supply appears to generate very low RF noise, at least I don't notice it. This is another important consideration, especially on the lower HF and MF bands.

12V, 76A Delta surplus server supply I modded to 13V and slapped some binding posts on. Tiny little thing for the wattage, but sounds like a vacuum cleaner running under the bench

A lot of folks here love their switchers but I invested in an Astron RS-35. Runs everything except amp with zero RFI and it's completely silent. Steady 14vdc and 15-20 amp peaks that never waver. I power it up and forget it's there.

My pyramid 52kx took a dump on me so I got a hold of 2 HP server supplies and put them in it's case. Now I have a rock solid 200 amp supply that will handle just about anything that I would throw at it.

Pyramids are CRAP. I have worn out enough of them to fill up a dumpster. I use Only ASTRON Power Supplies since 2002 & they have never let me down.

My friends & I found that those & the Tripp Lite power supplies made great dumpster materials. Tripp Lite could not even provide a schematic that included the parts because they told me they were built in Mexico & they were not sure what parts they had in them.

70 amp Astron. Its probably overkill but it's never been stressed with the amps in the shack. I actually dont know if I've ever pushed it to the point the fan kicked on..

If the fan comes on you will for it. I was running a 350 watt TE Systems amplifier with mine & working a pileup. It came on & it Scared me because I had never heard the fan. It has a very noticeable sound. I have (2) of the RS-50 amp Astron supplies & I find it strange that they don't have a fan at all?
