There are other methods.

I never unlock my clarifier... I just don't see the point. If it is unlocked:

1. You tune them in (shifting your TX freq. all the while)
2. They tune you in (shifting their TX freq.)
3. You re-tune them
4. They re-tune you
5. You tune them again.
6. They tune you again.
7. Etc, etc. etc. etc.
I just don't need all that trouble.

My 40D clarifier is unlocked and locked --- I installed a replacement potientiometer w/ switch. When the clarifier knob is pulled out the radio is locked on center freq. When pushed in it's variable. Very nice to have.
 
Around here if u dont have an open clarifier and the old timers have to tune to u they bitch.....

As well they should if you call them. You should be calling them on THEIR frequency and not "something close". I have had people call me and then tell me I was off frequency. How could I be off frequency if I picked my frequency to call CQ on? :blink:
