My wife and I like to go out to eat , we do this about every other time I'm home from work. We ate at Coltons Stake House and as usual it was another disappointment. I like stake, but I've given up. I've had stake at Coltons, TGI Fridays, Lone Star Stake House, Cattlemens in OKC and several other popular restaurants including some only in Oklahoma mom & pop restaurants popular with Okies. And every one of these I've listed in my opinion serve a horrible Stake. Pet's Place in Krebs Oklahoma, it's an Italian restaurant ( I actually had spaghetti & lamb fries ) .I've heard how great this place is for yrs , $90 for one of the worst meals of my life. CATTLEMENS in OKC, An Oklahoma restaurant everyone talks up and has for yrs, HORRIBLE! I may be the minority, but the only place I have had a consistently good stake, Western Sizzling. A lot of people I know think it's on the low end of places to eat, but I've only been disappointed one time that I can think of over the years. You can call me crazy, but I'll take a stake from WESTERN SIZZLING over any of the other places I've mentioned ( and some unmentioned) There's a little hole in the wall by the house called Besrs, supposedly its awesome but expensive, I'm very skeptical.

In recent years Its almost discouraging to sit down and eat anywhere, even fast food places. The prices of stuff alone makes a single meal not worth it.
Though I will give credit to the little food place in Hutchinson at the Amtrak train station. Probably thee best breakfast I have had going out to 'sit and eat' in many many years. Everything was on point and tasted great. From the Coffee to the eggs in the breakfast burrito, it all was done right. Hashbrowns are always soggy or too burnt most of the times at an iHop and such, but this time they were done great.

The very best and most expensive steak was probably at Porter Land and Cattle ( or something like that) around Austin Texas. I got a Porterhouse as big as the plate, and it was a truly great cut. If I remember correctly, that steak alone was over $100. Ruth's Chris steak House on the East Coast of US is excellent, but still overpriced. (Don't remember the prices exactly) Then Gibson's in Chicago has an $85 Porterhouse that is excellent, but overpriced for what it is. And last but not least, The Keg stake house in Montreal. The best price for a great steak that is right up there with Ruth's Chris and Gibson's, you won't be disappointed. Locally the best steak is Texas Roadhouse, although a bit on the salty side sometimes.

Sometimes the best steak is the one you cook yourself...

I buy my stakes from Home Depot. Never disappointed.

We have few dining options here local, this is a small town........
We have one grocery store in town, but
They have there own butcher shop in the store and will custom cut whatever you need.
They feature things like Korean Short Ribs, Brown Sugar Bourbon New York Strip, Tomahawk Steaks, Pre marinaded Tri-Tip, Brisket and more.

There isn't much of a selection when it comes to a good steak in Colombia. So for the past few years we have been buying an Angus calf from a rancher a few pueblos away. Fatten it on grass and corn meal, then have it slaughtered and dressed by a professional butcher in the Med. We keep one side for ourselves and sell the other side - first come, first served. Luz char-broils them on our open hearth BBQ. Absolutely the best !!! We take the lesser cuts and all the trimmings, add some fat and have it double-ground. Best hamburgers money can't buy.

We agree with G-Golly Wally that the place for consistently good beef in the US was Western Sizzlin !! Since we have been here going on 17 years, I can't comment on today's prices. But back then they were really reasonable.

Hey in this aspect I have to say I have an advantage. I'm 30 minutes away from the beef capital of the world (Hereford Tx) so excellent beef is plentiful here. With that said there's no shortage of steakhouses in Amarillo, Dyers BBQ knows BBQ but the owners raise their own cattle so they do like MMM and "get down" when it comes to steaks.

Texas Rose steakhouses probably takes the title for steaks in this town next to Red River steakhouse. If you're ever in the area that's where most in the yellow city will point you to.

Of course here in Amarillo we also have the well known Big Texan steakhouse, home of the 72 oz. steak that you can eat for free if you eat all of it plus all the fixins. Believe it or not, many have done it and there's a wall of fame for those that have. Tons of videos to be found on the tube about it. All that said, it isn't that great and is really just a tourist attraction.

OK I've probably said enough

399 Western Sizzling prices have gone up some , but not to bad. It's still reasonable, and the best bang for your buck as far as I'm concerned

I noticed I misspelled Bears, It's the little hole in the wall close to the house that I've been told is really good. He processes his own beef, it's $50 a plate but supposedly worth the money. I'll have to think heavily about that, just me and the wife is a 100 dollar bill. We've discussed buying a side of beef from one of the ranches Around here and stock the freezer.

Damn.....I wanted to be the smart ass, but you beat me to it.
Spelling isn't my strongest point, neither is math. Reading comprehension was always off the chart, just don't expect me to spell anything. When my daughter was in school she would ask me how to spell a word, then laugh while I failed miserably. I asked why she wanted me to spell something she already new how to spell. She said because it's just so funny.
