An old proverb, "No good deed goes unpunished"

That's the truth. It bothers my wife when I try and distance myself from him, like I said earlier I'll only interact with him if he asks me questions but I keep the answers short and sweet. I told her every time I'm nice or try to establish some kind of common ground with him ,he'll screw me over every single time. I've already replaced my cordless tools because I refuse to pay the pawnshop anymore for my own property back. Now the tools stay locked up in my truck and go where I go, I only take them out if I have to use them, now the wallet will be done the same way. I apologize for dragging this crap up again, but I really have no friends to vent to here at home, so I vent on here because sometimes it's all I have. I know it the same ol song, second verse same as the first. Again sorry.

Very OT...but something plaguing me.

Has anyone had to deal with a loved one hooked on drugs?

It’s been a while now, and things have come to a head. I have little faith in the resources available. Don’t know what to do.

I have a stepdaughter heroin addict, currently in-recovery and over two years clean. God (through his servants in a church in TN where she now lives) stepped in. That said, she was clean several times before, always relapsed, and cost the family THOUSANDS in stolen property including priceless heirlooms, two vehicles, and stolen CC debt.
I regret to be of the opinion that there is very little you can do for him/her. Because, to the addict, everyone, (including family, even their own children) are potential "funding sources" for their next high. They will do whatever it takes.
We also lost a son-in-law to an OD in 2016, leaving three daughters to grieve among the rest of us. Only the SELF-MOTIVATED individual addict, relying upon a lot of help from God, can change their course.

I’m so sorry to hear about all the pain your family has gone through. Addiction is such a heartbreaking thing, especially when it affects people you love. It’s encouraging to hear that your stepdaughter is over two years clean now, and I hope she continues on that path with the support she needs. I agree, it can be tough to help someone who isn’t ready to help themselves, and sometimes it feels like you’re powerless.

Haven't been on the forum in Months!! Was still having problems with the son's drug addiction. I had went to work in OKC two and a half hours away from the house only to get a phone call from my daughter tell me my son was taking my tools and whatever he could get his hands on. So immediately went back home confronted him, got the police involved, kicked him out , then gave everyone in my household the ultimatum that if they weren't with me their against me. And they could all leave because the nice guy has had enough, I'm not being nice any longer. Since that day two months ago I've lived the most peaceful I've ever lived in my own home ever! Told the wife I hate to be this way but I've had all I'm gonna take, don't let me catch you lying, going behind my back and giving the boy money or paying his fines. I don't want a divorce after 38 years but if that's what it takes, that's what I'll do, I'm not living like this any longer. So far so good. I tried to keep it short. O, almost forgot, he went to rehab in Tyler Texas and staying at a sober living house. Hope it helps him but as of right now, I'm not interested in having contact with him anytime soon.

Do you know when a person is had enough they've had enough.
Like my friend John said when he was alive when you get sick and tired of being sick and tired that's when you do something different about it.
I've been around a couple of church programs at churches with guys and girls and all kinds of problems a lot of them have been locked up at times in local or state maybe federal prisons. Seems like the biggest part of issues are drugs and drug related in those guys and girls.
Anyway my heart goes out to your brother and I said a prayer for you your son and your family. I hope anyone else is reading these posts will put at least a prayer in to help intercede. Keith

Oh yeah and if he's not in a one-year program it would be great if he could get in a one year at least one year church program

My eldest son (I have five kids) has been on the cycle of drug abuse and rehab since he was 15. He's 33 this year. He gets totally f****ed up on drugs, then goes to rehab, successfully completes the program which is either a one or five year program. The he gets approved for housing, moves out of rehab center and immediately gets back into the drugs. Rinse and repeat. I talk to him about once every couple of years. I decided when he was 20 to focus my energy on his siblings who weren't hooked on drugs instead of wasting my time and energy on someone that was. Sounds harsh but that's the reality.... I only have so much to give!

The freaky thing is, he told me that the drug dealers are literally sitting on the steps of the rehab center waiting for people to come out. Five years and they can't even walk down the road for five minutes before people are offering them drugs again. Screwed up system.

yes, I quit a part-time job at that Tractor Supply place a few weeks ago.

I loaned some money to a "Team Leader" there, and found out he
is into the pills. he said his electricity was being cut off, and
also being evicted. all the lies. calling me up at 3
in the morning, all high, for money, He owes other people money there also.
He would pass out at work from drugs.

the drugs, the pills. the lies. heard it all before.
But I care for people.

Tractor Supply does not drug test their employees.
I had this talk with the manager that hired me.
I told him about the problem with drugs at other employers.

So I will apply for the part time Summer job at Lowe's again,
where I worked for two summers already.
they drug test people. I actually hate that!

actually, I am a Libertarian type of guy.
I don't care if people do drugs n drink.
they can get drunk, do pills, get high.
Just don't let it affect me, and society.
but that is what happens.

years ago, I would let people that were real drunk stay
at my place for the night, instead of driving home drunk.
but after a few bad experiences with this, I say NO.
