can something like this be done... I can see it working in my head... one something like the 142gtl or really on anything that you can unlock the clarifier on...

All CB's are like that from the factory in a way.

The TX is static and the RX moves

Unlocking the clarifier is a misnomer, the TX and RX track together after this mod is done.

I guess one could expand the range of the RX clarifier.

Dunno what you would achieve by this,.

I just use the VFO to decide TX frequency.

If I'm off frequency a bit, I let the other guy hone in and then use the RIT to tune him in.

It is nothing new. Planty of CB's have them both.

I think what he was asking though is since there are two can they be modded so one controls the receive and one the transmit. One for each.

Yes. Coarse should apply voltage to varactor diode only in TX not TX/RX as from factory.
