beetle , i appreciate the reply, not being lazy or anything but ive got no idea where to find that exact cap that youre talking about. ive posted a bunch of pictures on this amp, so if you can kindly point me to the exact cap to change it will be really appreciated. thanks in advanced sir......grasshopper1031
 
Can you tell me the value of the capacitor circled in the pic below? I think that's the one for the SSB delay, but I'm wondering what the value of it is first, need capacitance and voltage. Thanks!

That sounds about right. It can vary from 10 to 100 uF. What you could do next is follow the traces on that capacitor. Either the capacitor will be bridged across the coil on the relay, or it will be bridged from one side of the relay coil to ground. see if the "+" side of the capacitor is going to the coil on the relay. If it is, and the negative lead is going to the other side of the coil, or to ground, that is most likely your SSB delay. You can either change it to a 4.7uF 35V cap, or you can unsolder the ground leg of the capacitor and install a small toggle switch inbetween the capacitor and ground. That will give you switchable SSB delay.
 
Sorry I have not responded sooner....it is crush season here in ca.....
I don`t have the amp in my hands, but looking at the pics it sure looks like the VR right under the relay ( the one with the 2879 sticker ) controls the ssb delay,
i would mark it so you know were you started, give it a small adjustment and see what the result is.....sure looks like it to me. I would try that before ripping out the board to change cap values....just make sure you mark it so you know were you started.

Very good call on this one Jeff , sure made life a lot easier being a VR . I have a older Blue face Palomar 225 AB-1 (about 12 years old) this amp has no VR to adjust , the problem is that the AM delay is slightly to long.

Now I remember in the past that this was common on some of the first run versions on this amp , beings that there's no VR adjustment , would it be a cap that needed to be changed to fix the problem on the AM side ?

and would SSB be affected if trying to give it less delay on AM ? I'll get a picture up shortly. thanks
 
I have one of those 'Looks identicle . Just another name on it.

Can any one verify the resistor circled in this picture?
I think it is 100 ohms but not sure.
Mine is a crispy critter and two bad transistors.

but it looks like yours has the vr for the delay ? unless your referring to something else ? Good luck to you as well.

Actually I used his picture . My amp is the same as his. I was at work and saw no need to take a picture of mine. And yes mine has a varible delay also.


Mine popped a transistor and took out a resistor. To the point I can not tell what it is. I think by looking at the pic I posted that it looks like a 100 ohm. I circled it in red. I already have a set of transistors to replace with but dont want to risk it and put the wrong value in.
 
Can't quite make out the colors on the circled resistor, but it doesn't look burned or overheated from what I can see.

If you try to measure it with a meter, be sure to disconnect one end from the circuit. Otherwise you'll be measuring other stuff as well, and that will affect the reading you get.
 
Ok, Let me refraze this a bit..............

The picture I posted is on of grasshopper1031 pictures, not mine.

I only used it to show the area I was in question of.
My amp has a chard and broke resistor. So no meter will read it and the resistor is so burnt I can not even tell it had color bands on it.

When I saw grasshopper post those I just took one of his and put a circle on it then re-uploaded since his amp is the same as mine. But in his picture it is not clear enough for me to see the colors.
