Going for the dive and getting ready for the ticket

Well fellas after so many years in the world of cb I've made the decision to get my ticket. I've already started studying for the technicians with general soon to follow. I've contacted the local amateur radio club and found that testing is the first Saturday of each month so I plan to test in August, hopefully.......
The plan is to take both tests so hopefully it'll come together.

A great choice and one I think you'll be really happy with. I have no doubt you'll sail thru both exams. And then you'll have a whole new world of radio to play in. If you like DXing you'll be in tall cotton. Especially on HF.

There is a lot of overlapping material from tech to general, so once you start acing the tech practice exams, you are already half way to general. Good luck, though I doubt you’ll need it!

Yes, do both tests.

As you can see, the Tech class is too limiting.

Just a thought, you have time to get proficient at the tech/general class tests, consider the extra class while you are still in study mode.

Seriously though, don’t let anyone tell you how to play radio. Digital modes have been used by amateurs since the 40’s, and even cw is technically a digital mode. I personally enjoy winlink, maybe partly because it ruffles so many feathers lol

I'm a bonafide DX'r, man I like to talk or as hams say phone so I don't know about FT.

After chasing the peak solar cycles so many years in search of dx I realize I'm not getting any younger and would like to enjoy the even when the cycle isn't so great on 11 meters. I figure I'll search the ham bands and say what works for me.

I have high expectations so hopefully I can find a home somewhere in there.

I've been a cb'r so long that 11 meters is definitely staying in my world no doubt, I won't forget where I came from.
