I looked up totals by state and it breaks each license class down. It was interesting that out of a total of 723,000, 306,000 are Techs. Quite a few.

Of that 306,000, I am willing to bet that less than 5% are active.

This table list only those callsigns which are "active". The number of assigned callsigns is considerably greater than the number of active callsigns.

Don't know how you figure 5%. Pa has constant repeater use. I think a lot more than 15,000 techs use their privs. nationwide. I would be encouraging those techs as they are Ham's future. To follow that 5% thinking for other classes would put Gen's at 7000 Advanced at 3800 and Extras at 5500 nationwide.

Something to think about. If techs become discouraged and let their activity stop that drops the total Ham licenses down. How far will it drop until the FCC sees it as something not worth keeping all the bandwidth for when they can make a bundle by selling it off. Keep getting those new techs in.
