Why did they discontinue the Grant LT? Where is the best place to get one if they are still around? If I am interested in the SSB is there another one I should be lookin at if I can't gt the Grant?

Thanks for the help

Hello,

I sure don't know. And I wish they'd not made that decision. Best darn CB made, IMO. Better than an old 148, or GrantXL (at least thaose I've had were). Discontinued the Washington, too.

The official line is, there isn't enough interest in SSB.

You can get factory refurb Grant LT's direct from Uniden (www.uniden.com) for $137.50. Those I've received looked like new radios. New faces and covers. All worked flawlessly (and have continued to, so far). I have one in my truck right now.......

Otherwise, you can email me for more info.

Hope this helps!

The Texas Ranger I think is an equal replacement to the Grant, also the 949 Galaxy, and even a Superstar 3900. I never understood the Grant buyers when you get so much more from a 3900 for about the same price.

Hello,

Easy to understand. The 3600 boards (the superstar 3900 uses the rci-built ept3600 board) are somewhat less than stable, have poor adjacent-channel rejection, are prone to front-end overload, warble on SSB, are prone to rotten factory alignment, are prone to 'cold solder' joints, have poorer noise-blankers, and won't do 15 peak-avg watts from a 1 watt d.k. when modified (the dual-final will, but doesn't sound good doing it. the GrantLT does!).

They -do- offer some nice features, but aren't as good a -radio-.

The Texas Ranger 296 (not the others) is an almost identical circuit, but suffers from lower build-quality and somewhat lower quality components. Won't give more than 11 watts peak-average (and when driving an amp, that is signifigant).

Bear in mind, it all depends on what -you- want in a radio! Different users have different expectations/requirements. One size doesn't really fit all, so to speak.

So get what pleases -you-!!

Just my personal experience and opinion.

Hope this helps!

#7 is right there are no export radios that can run with the uniden line .They are hands down the best cb radios.I have had ss3900 and other export radios and their tx and rx don't even come close.Export radios get splashed and give out more splash.

I'll have to go with the Esterbunny.Pesident is a very good export.Never had a problem with mine.

I was told that they have been talkin about the discontinuation of the Grant LT for quite sometime now. I was also told that they just seem to keep makein em anyway. I don't know what the deal is but the supplier told me that they keep shippin em to him. Bein new to this stuff I don't know but that is the take on what I have heard.

No Grant LT today. Sure hope it comes tomorrow.

I have an older Grant xl that I keep for a backup in my big truck. It used to be my local "squash box" before I got my finely tuned 148 W/sp1a (Shhhhwattt!)

That old Grant is the loudest roar'inst most annoying and brutal rig I have ever heard! I love it so much,I think I will go give it a hug!
