Handheld Export Questions?

I am in need of a new handheld radio with 3 bands of channels. I have owned several Midlands and Maxons. They didn't hold up very well. I have a friend with a Cobra 45WX that had the channel mod done to it and it seams to be a nice radio. Anyone know who has these now? I am having problems finding them -have they quit making them?

Is there a nicer handheld that someone knows of?

I am not sure what you are going to use it for so I am not sure what to recommend.I used to carry the 45 wx and I still have a couple left if thats what you want.I know everybody makes fun of them but radio shack carries a nice no license required FM handheld. You dont get the noise and trash you get on an 11 meter handheld. They also have motorola.Hope this helps.Happy Thanksgiving.Rog

I only use 27.805 on this radio. That's the reason for the mod. It is used mainly for hunting so it get's knocked around a little.

The problem is that we have setups in our trucks as well. We lease lots of land and may be 5 miles apart some times. We prefer to use something that works with our truck radios. I wish Galaxy, Connex or TR made a handheld!!!

GoNo2,

Don't know if this would help but some of the GMRS radios have a 7 mile range. You just have to purchase a licencse from the FCC at a cost of 75.00 bucks. I understand you want to keep all your equipment the same. I have a Undien Pro 340 XL and the short antenna doesn't do to bad, have talked up to 7 miles with it.

Are the Cherokee's able to be modified for 3 bands? Will Bill's do this if so?

I've never seen a Magnum handheld..... Where can you get one of these??

Ok - I see where the AH27 is modifiable for either 120 or 200 channels. Anyone know what the frequency range would be? I assume either the normal 3 or 5 bands???

89 bucks seems like a good price to me. Anyone else carry these?

Bill's will do the mod - but want's $65.00 (1 hour rate) to do it. That's almost as much as the radio. Still got my eye's open for something. Anyone every do this mod themselves? Looks pretty simple on cbtricks.

Hey Premiereelec - I sent you an email, but haven't gotten a reply so I will ask here. Do you take Discover? It's the only card I use or have anymore...

Thanks

(Dean - sorry I have gotten off the subject a little)
