HEADPHONES: WHERE TO BUY??

I want to buy a set of MONAURAL 8-Ohm headphones to use on my AT6666PRO. Needs to have a 1/8" (3.5mm) plug. Stereo phones won't work. I have a set. Looked at DX Engineering, and others, but no mono phones. Suggestions ??

My thought too. Made a stereo to mono adapter. Radio didn't like it. two 8-ohms in parallel over-loaded the audio chip.

My favorite mono adapter is to use a stereo socket. Wire hot to the plug's tip, ground to the ring. No connection to the sleeve. This puts the two sides in series, and out of phase. Rather than sounding like the audio is in the center of your skull, give the audio some illusion of space.

Less fatiguing than a straight parallel-mono hookup an adapter socket gives you. Rewired the headphone jacks on my base radios this way.

Tried the Koss headphones off of my desktop. Worked fine. Awaiting the 'phones I ordered from Amazon. 73.

Anyway, it is speaker output, not a headphones output, so signal is too strong. That might be a reason of poor performance.
Use some ATT before connecting headphones.

Your biggest problem is what SP5IT noted, your audio quality is going to suffer because speaker outs are rated in watts and headphone jacks are in milli-watts so you need some attenuation.

Here is a good work around box that will let you select the radio speaker output to go to both an external speaker and a pair of headphones with attenuation knob (Volume knob). This should provide mono audio to both headphone speakers because it's being fed a mono signal.

I would go this route so you can easily switch between headphones and the external speaker.

I was aware for the need for some attenuation. So I added a 4.7Kohm 5W resistor in series with the hot side of the Q6's Ext spkr out. Didn't want to blow my Koss or Audo-technica Phones. Same attenuation scheme used on some variations of the 858SSb chassis (not the 139XLR though). Reduces the output to an acceptable level for phones.
