Health care

First, that health care ranking by country is 10 years out of date. That ranking is strictly by medical services at that time, had nothing to do with what you had to 'live' with to get that medical care. France may be ranked #1, but I'll be damned if I'd live there for health care! I also haven't looked at the documentation for that ranking, so am not sure I'd trust it all that much.
From knowing and speaking to a few people who live in Canada, the UK and one or two of the Scandinavian countries, our commercialized, capitalist type health care beats the snot out of the typical socialized medicine.
Considering where this 'Health Care' plan came from, it's almost a 'given' that it's a very bad idea. There has been so much 'smoke-n-mirrors' with the present political cesspool that if you believe anything coming out of DC you're an idiot. Don't listen to what 'they' say, look at what 'they' do. Huge difference, very little of it practical, and show me how it's a benefit to me or anyone else. Except... guess who?

"THE US CURRENTLY HAS THE BEST HEALTHCARE ON THIS PLANET."

what planet did you say you lived on?
The World Health Organization's ranking of the world's health systems

as you see, the US is ranked #37. clearly, those who can afford the best that allopathic medicine can hope to offer are making the trip to France.

Well looky there at number 30.

As for the part about France, I saw a documantary comparing the USA,Canada,France and England and France was waaaaay out in front. The French pay for that level of service rather handsomly however and the doctors rarely ever drive expensive cars or have million dollar homes. They are in it for the job and not making the big $$$$$$ buy holding someone ransom over an illness. The doctors actually made housecalls at anytime of the day or night for free and wait times at hospitals were very low.

BTW, I agree with Doc about the living there part.

Look at who is doing the assessment.
That should give you your first clue.

Hey you, as well as all the other people who want that crap, can go there and stay. You'd be happy and the rest of us would too.

Have you tried it?

So what is the motivation for someone to go into any profession?

Competition ALWAYS breeds a better product.

And by the way. The thing that would bring health care costs down the most is tort reform. My friends pay around 1/3 of their yearly income for malpractice insurance. Just to protect themselves against frivolous law suits from people who want something for nothing. (you know the type)
The first thing out of Obama's mouth when he addressed the AMA was that there would be no tort reform.

It's just hard to believe some people can actually think that something (anything) can be had for nothing.

Personally, me and mine are working dilligently to take care of ourselves and are planning for the future. I don't want anyone else taking that away and I don't expect anyone else to take that away from others that are doing the same and giving it to us.

Who wants to violate that?

Not me.

Who wants to violate that?

Not me.

That's what socialism and redistribution of wealth is all about.
Taking it away from those who work, earn, plan and provide for themselves, and giving it to stupid, lazy, deadbeats that want to sit on their asses and have it handed to them.

The problem with socialism is that eventually you run out of other people's money

It looks good on paper.

It goes against human nature.

And don't think for a minute that corruption won't play a huge part.

The system is beyond corrupt as it is, giving more power will just add to it.

"Look at who is doing the assessment. That should give you your first clue."

no other organization provides any assessment, as a matter of fact the sheer volume of information and data required prevents the assessment from occurring on an annual basis, that's why the last one was done in 2000. it matters not as the US has not made any substantial gains in their standing since then.

the housing crisis and the majority of home foreclosures in this country are being driven by skyrocketing health care costs. to put it simply, homeowners are being bankrupted by medical costs and losing their homes.

The American dream has a perverse ending these days: Diagnoses of chronic diseases, long-term treatment with expensive drugs, pain, misery, bankruptcy and death without dignity.

Almost half of all Americans will be diagnosed with cancer during their lives; nearly all of them will die slowly and painfully of cancer after being subjected to years of expensive chemo therapy drugs, radiation treatments and surgeries.

Those who escape cancer will succumb to heart disease, diabetes, multiple sclerosis, Alzheimer's or some other chronic disease.

Reuters recently reported that a report published in the journal Health Affairs found that half of all bankruptcies are filed by Americans drowning in medical bills.

Most of the nearly 800,000 medical bill-induced bankruptcies were average Americans and their dependents WITH MEDICAL INSURANCE who happened to get sick. "Our study is frightening. Unless you are Bill Gates, you're just one serious illness away from bankruptcy," commented study director Dr. David Himmelstein of the Harvard Medical School.

To help organized medicine collect, Congress passed a bankruptcy reform bill in March, 2005, exempting medical bills from bankruptcy protection.

Statistically, you will be diagnosed with a chronic illness, you will seek treatment from doctors who will prescribe drugs and surgeries, you will suffer economic hardship from treatments that never cure the illness and you will die sick and penniless... ...unless you learn about the true nature of disease and why bodies develop chronic symptoms.

"health care" in its current form is unsustainable, regardless of how it's paid for and who's administering it. until we get the government, insurance companies and big pharma out of it, no one who actually knows what constitutes real health wants any part of it.

in the meantime, the American medical system is itself the leading cause of death and injury in the U.S..

1993-2003: Medical mistakes took 7.8 million lives... Organized medicine killed more Americans in last decade than all U.S. wars combined....

The most comprehensive report on the state of U.S. healthcare ever conducted shows that organized medicine has killed 7,841,360 Americans in the last 10 years. "Our estimated 10-year total of 7.8 million iatrogenic [doctor-induced] deaths is more than all the casualties from all the wars fought by the U.S. throughout its entire history," commented the Nutrition Institute of America (NIA), in its report, "Death By Medicine" (Oct., 2003).

The concept of the report was prompted by the fact that, while conventional medicine kills hundreds of thousands of Americans each year, government regulators attempt to ban and restrict the use of vitamins and herbs that kill no one.

Incidentally, the report, which resulted from the compilation and analysis of 94 U.S. hospitals and hundreds of medical journal articles, determined that medical error causes an astounding 783,936 deaths per year (and growing). "It is evident that the American medical system is itself the leading cause of death and injury in the U.S.," the authors observed.

The purpose of the report was to memorialize the total failure of the American medical system and to "provide the basis for competent and compassionate medical professionals to recognize the inadequacies of today's system and at least attempt to institute meaningful reforms," wrote the editors of Life Extension magazine.

Life Extension has posted the entirety of the NIA report at its website. This report should be read by everyone who has been or is currently hospitalized or being treated with "conventional" medicine. As more people become aware of the magnitude of the problem, they will become more empowered to take charge of their own healthcare.

we don't need to figure out how to pay for health care, we need to replace it with something that works first. once that is accomplished then the costs will plummet. since the orders being given to the current administration are to run this county into the ground, that's not going to happen in the foreseeable future. you either take responsibility for your own health or continue to face the very real prospect of winding up penniless and in the streets with nowhere to live and ultimately you end up dead.

if you believe any of the following statements to be true then you don't know anything about living a healthy life in the first place.

* Germs cause Disease
* Pharmaceuticals restore health
* Vaccination brings immunity
* The cure for cancer is just around the corner
* Menopause is a disease condition
* When a child is sick, he needs immediate antibiotics
* When a child has a fever he needs Tylenol
* Hospitals are safe and clean.
* America has the best health care in the world.
* Americans have the best health in the world.
* Milk is a good source of calcium.
* You never outgrow your need for milk.
* Vitamin C is ascorbic acid.
* Aspirin prevents heart attacks.
* Heart drugs improve the heart.
* Back and neck pain are the only reasons for spinal adjustment.
* No child can get into school without being vaccinated.
* The FDA thoroughly tests all drugs before they go on the market.
* Pregnancy is a serious medical condition
* Chemotherapy and radiation are effective cures for cancer
* When your child is diagnosed with an ear infection, antibiotics should be given
* immediately ‘just in case’ Ear tubes are for the good of the child.
* Estrogen drugs prevent osteoporosis after menopause.
* Pediatricians are the most highly trained of all medical specialists.
* The purpose of the health care industry is health.
* HIV is the cause of AIDS.
* AZT is the cure.
* Without vaccines, infectious diseases will return
* Fluoride in the city water protects your teeth
* Flu shots prevent the flu.
* Vaccines are thoroughly tested before being placed on the Mandated Schedule.
* Doctors are certain that the benefits of vaccines far outweigh any possible risks.
* There is a power shortage in California.
* There is a meningitis epidemic in California.
* The NASDAQ is a natural market controlled only by supply and demand.
* Chronic pain is a natural consequence of aging.
* Soy is your healthiest source of protein.
* Insulin shots cure diabetes.
* After we take out your gall bladder you can eat anything you want
* Allergy medicine will cure allergies.

there are only two kinds of people in the world, those who recognize the truth and those who don't. all of the above statements are false. they want you sick, they want you consuming their pharmaceutical drugs, antibiotics and paying for unnessessary surgeries, they want all of your assets and they want you dead.

the only question that needs to be answered on an individual basis is this. do you care more about your health than they do?

Anyone remember 40 or so years ago when ol'Nikita said something to the effect that 'they' were going to conquer the USA? Something to the effect that we would 'join' them? Seems 'they' 'joined' us first, as in capitalism. And if you take a step back and look at us, we seem to be 'joining' them in socialism. Why do I get the feeling that we got the short end of that stick? Or is it that we are getting that short stick 'given' to us!
Oh well, probably just my imagination, right?

Dear comrade freecell

What a load of crap

Home foreclosures are caused because loans were given to people (by mandate) who could not repay the loan. This was begun by Carter and amplified under Clinton (the 2nd and 3rd worst presidents of all time). Look up "Community Reinvestment Act"

The rest of it is just beyond the realm of bullshit.
I suggest you go directly to France or some other jerk off country and live out your "I want it for nothing" life, free of all the mentioned ailments until you never die.
While you are there be sure and check out how much you are going to pay in their version of income tax. Or just plain taxes in general. Then let us know how "free" socialist medicine is.

It's hard to believe anyone could actually believe your line of crap.

Hey I notice you don't admit to where you live.
Let me guess...San Francisco?

Have you ever even been to France?

The line was...

"We'll bury you!"

freecell,
Where did you plagiarizer that from? Where ever it's from, you might let them know that a lot of it just plain B.S.. Health Care is the reason why there are so many bankruptcies and home loan foreclosures? Oh yeah! Couldn't have anything to do with people living above their incomes, could it? Naw.
Everybody in this country is going to die of cancer or some other disease? If you would add in violence and accidents, you'd have every cause of death known to man. Of course, none of that ever happens in any other country, does it? Just here, because of our rotten capitalistic health care industry, Okay, I got'cha now.
There's more but it isn't worth my time to point it out. Gotta go work so I can buy some more health insurance...
- 'Doc

And before you get started, I know our health care isn't the 'best' it could be. I know that very well, been around it most of my working life, on both ends of it. I also know that while our's isn't the best going, it's certainly better than most you will commonly find.

Oh, and that going to work thingy is also B.S.. My health won't let me. And that's all I care to participate in this.

obviously you're not paying attention. i don't have any use for health care,
doctors, hospitals and anything else that goes along with them. in my world doctors and hospitals are people you see and places you go if you want to die. reread my earlier posts.

for 31 years neither my wife or myself have needed any of it. none of that makes me a comrade, it makes me self reliant and self dependent.

when this debacle finally rolls out you'll be wishing you were too. mark my words.

"where did you plagiarizer that from?"

WHY AMERICANS WILL BELIEVE ALMOST ANYTHING

Then why the hell are you recommending socialist health care?
AND the idiotic notion that home foreclosures are caused by healthcare !

"Then why the hell are you recommending socialist health care?"

please feel free to point out exactly where i said that because i neither said or recommended any such thing.

"AND the idiotic notion that home foreclosures are caused by healthcare !"

home foreclosures are being driven in large part by people bankrupted by medical bills leaving them unable to pay their mortgages.
