Icom 7200

Any Icom nerds out there? I picked up a very slightly used 7200 with power supply and mic for $500 a couple months back and finally am getting it set up.

My question is, when I see people asking about what radio to get for their first HF I see a lot of Icom 7100 and 7300 but rarely a mention of the 7200.

Do you know why this is? Is this one of the rarer cases of a newer model (7200) is worse than its predecessor?

The ruggedized 7200 was a neat radio but had limited appeal. The 7300 is much newer and a current model, which is why people recommend it. The 7100 was a small form factor radio for mobile or desktop use and was also very popular. Both had/have a more user friendly UX, which also contributes to why people tend to recommend them.

Have fun with the 7200.

  • @ Hambones amps:
Does anyone know if you can replace the 2290 in a galaxy dx 93t twin turbine with a 2sc2879 red dot? If so, what would have to be tuned?
  • @ ShadowDelaware:
Hambones the entire amp section would have to be retuned, and the rf transformers re wrapped.
