Imax 2000 with ground plane kit VS Maco 5/8, what is your experience?

I have always leaned this as well, it's easy for me to imagine some kind of capacitive coupling going on with the mast and a thin insulated material on metal pipe.
I tried to separate the mast completely.

I have seen people do this with amp boards. They dont realize they created capacitance when they do that, copper strip with tape/glue holding it to the copper main board.

This has been an interesting thread. I am only recently deeper into antennas but find it fun to experiment with. I am in the local helicopter/hospital flight line, have a blind neighbor that loves listening to audio books via headphones, the same neighbor has his science experiment solar controller stuff mounted to the side of his house closest to my antennas/ base radios, ridiculous city and county regulations and a smaller back yard that I have filled lots of space with a large metal garage so my goal is always can I do what I want within lots of constrictions. It makes things 10x more fun. I am constantly reading something new (for me) about antennas and have learned only one thing for sure. Don't trust anything you read completely. What works for one person may not work for another. Not counting mobile my current antennas I am happy with number 3. One of them is a A99. I chased around a problem with the SWR degrading after a month of use that ended up being a top section that was going bad for some reason. Started out with low noise and below 1.1 SWR at the frequency I transmit on to ever increasing noise and rising SWR over time eventually hitting a little over 1.3 until I replaced the top section with a Firestik. I can say that for me specifically an A99 can be made to work with the base a mere 4 feet off the ground. Well enough that I am told it is between me and one other locally for the best and clearest sounding radios (without me using a high powered radio or amp). Well enough that I can hear people clearly 40 plus miles away locally. I would also agree eliminating cmc is a necessity with it. I run a Balun Designs 1:1 at both ends with LMR400. Overboard maybe but I no longer have noise during certain parts of the day making it hard for me to understand what people are saying.

  • @ Hambones amps:
Does anyone know if you can replace the 2290 in a galaxy dx 93t twin turbine with a 2sc2879 red dot? If so, what would have to be tuned?
  • @ ShadowDelaware:
Hambones the entire amp section would have to be retuned, and the rf transformers re wrapped.
