to use my vintage Cobra 148GTL-DX on SSB ? It has a roger peep and operators seem to ignore it/me. I change over to my 2950 where I can turn the beep off and get responded to each and every time. Is there an unwritten law ?

While I do not care for echo on SSB I do not have a problem with a simple beep.
Under heavy band conditions I even find it an advantage if there is a lot of traffic on the frequency.

Also agreed! I can handle a single, simple NASA-like roger beep, but other than that I don't like any of those gimmicks. The pretty much never sound good or help the operator sound good.

this peep is the factory short peep. Nothings modded. From the responses I think I'll put something else inline when I want to do SSB. I agree that some roger beeps are annoying such as the longer duration types and K's, farts, doorslams etc. I want to keep this radio stock so clipping the wire inside isn't an option for me.
