Probably from all the steroids he used. He was one built dude back in the day. Those were the good ol days of wrestling. Just sooo much steroid use back then and probably without the knowledge of the total and long term effect it has. I would say that it had an effect on the outcome of this man life. 54 is pretty young these days IMO. Anyway, god bless him as he was one heck of a wrestler back then and put on a show.
