I recently got my hands on a Luiton LT-778 mobile transceiver. It is a basic AM/FM radio without VOX, DSP Noise Reduction or even a menu for user functions. All the functions are with buttons on the front of the radio making it a great candidate for mobile use; menus can be quite distracting while driving, and it is probably the best value around in watts per dollar at $100 for 60 watts. Unfortunately it doesn't have SSB.

It looks a whole lot like the at-5289ii but slightly different layout.

The 5289ii does have what that one is missing in features but at a higher price tag.

The one you have looks like a good no frills am talker at a good budget price.

The audio on this 778 sounds great, both Tx and Rx. The electret microphone seems to pass more lows than the Anytone and President radios that I am used to. The fix for the Anytone and President microphones is to use an element from a telephone handset to get a little lower response, but the 778 sounds like it already has it. The sound is not muddy and has enough highs to sound balanced with the lows, so I won't be doing anything to the mic.

The six pin mic plug wiring is different than the ones I am used to. The microphone has to be plugged in to hear the receiver, like a Cobra 29.
