Have this Maxon MCB-60A junker mobile in the closet. Works fine. Don't know who made it. Kind of looks like a Cybernet chassis but not sure.

When you key the mic, there is a brief and consistent 1/4 second delay between keying the mic and when the radio engages. Same if you use different mics.

Is this the way this chassis works or does it have some kind of problem that could be fixed ??

Thanks for any help !!

Nobody's got nuthin' on this problem ??

Likely made in Korea as most Maxons were made there.... About the problem, could be a poor operating electrolytic capacitor, dried out from age and this would be the voltage 'pool' for the electronic key-up circuit. Involves the capacitor to prevent 'chattering'. Not sure of value or location.
Lag time is the period where the cap is building up voltage....

Thanks Mechanic ! I've also had this same thing suggested by a local. So I looked around it again and there's so many transistors and caps in that thing I have no way of knowing which one is for TX Keying. …. forget a schematic …. I've had no luck finding much of anything on this radio and nothing at all on the board. Maybe sometime I can find some whiz around here who can point out the KT'r just by looking at it. Until then I'll just use it as is when/if I need to use it. It's no big deal. Just a cheap little backup rig I picked up for $20 to play with. Thanks again !!

Hello gentlemen and Ladies. I have the dreaded RCI-2990 receive issue where my radio gets distorted when people get close to my location. I found the C90 Capacitor, but I can not for the life of me find the C89 capacitor. Can or does anyone have a picture of the exact location of C89 ? Thank you in advance, Wes
