Anyone know of a good replacement mic for the above mentioned radio? I know the stock is 6 pin but I never use the channel buttons on the mic either. Are there adapters to go from 4 pin to a 6 pin?

Mic Upgrade for a President Mckinley

Well the reports from those that hear me is that it sounds slightly muffled. And a upgraded mic can never hurt.
I totally get it! You can always drill a small hole where the mic element is or I did this...modified cobra M75 power mic.
Works great! I get good reports and some think I am on a base station instead of mobile. I believe you can only use a mic that’s electret and not dynamic on the McKinley.
I drilled a hole in mine and it made a big difference. I've tried lots of different microphones on it, the stock microphone is still the best.
Over the mic element. Split the case and remove element from pocket and then drill a small hole.
Similar story as the anytone 6666, nothing beats the stock mics. Yet...
With the president Richard though, the RD104E (road devil) did really well. Not sure how it'll do with the McKinley

For me the modded Cobra M75 works a little better but both are close. I find turning down the mic gain 1-2 clicks makes a ton of diffence in audio quality.
I really don't know what it is set at. Hell it could be on the low side and that's why I'm not sounding the best.
Ok so I just got out of the truck, I figured out how to drop the Mic gain, down to 7 from the factory set 10. Also I moved the pickup from the little holder and moved it into the large opening that already had holes in it. Now I just need to get someone to answer me. I'll post up once a get a reply from someone and get the report from them.
The only thing that would conern me with the element in the bigger spot would be it banging around. I have seen where a small cardboard cut out made that fits the opening and the element in the middle of the cardboard.
