This Monkey jumped fire from one coil to the other at just 1500 Bird watts. It smoked a good 8 pill amp.

This was a brand new Monkey antenna that tuned beautiful. My field test man, "51" in Dallas (sometimes called Judge Roy Bean) that has been testing antennas for me for years thought he would test a Monkey. At just 1500 Bird watts it jumped fire from one coil to the other and smoked a very strong amp. Kale

An old ham told me that RF does NOT like flat surfaces or sharp edges. The man that tested this Monkey has won more key downs than anyone in the Dallas-Fort Worth area. He's the only one that I've ever seen that could drive his vehicle to the key downs, win his class and drive it back home. It's kinda like drivin your car to the Indianapolis 500, winning the race and then driving it back home. Kale

That applies to the way I like my women, too...

no way, that sounds like operator error!

there is no way that should arced at 1500 bird.

who smoked that antenna and what amp was being used.

51 in Dallas smoked it with a good strong 8 pill. The antenna tuned very well. 51 knows what he is doing. He's won world wide key downs. Kale

Tommy, at 1500 watts it jumped from one coil to the other and smoked the amp. 51 in Dallas is the one that did this. Kale

Tommy, the Wilson 5000 will surprise you. 51 testsd one out for two weeks doing around 2000. After two weeks of this, the swr wouldn't stay set. Kale

We're not talking about wire, we're talking about a FLAT coil. I know this man very well and not just him but others have reported the same thing with other antennas that have the coils less than 1/4" apart. I don't care what the BOOK says.

I am not a liar. This actually happened. You've got to be the only one that thinks that it is impossible. Kale

I'm curious if a moth or large bug flying in there would cause it to arc at that voltage? I'm also thinking that it wouldn't arc by itself, but because the gap is so narrow, it would be pretty easy for something to get in there and short a coil.
