More Proof Yaesu Makes Junk!

While I can't give the entire modification away, I can give some basic hints. You use a relay to reroute the audio from the balanced modulator, to the gate of the power control transistor. That is the transistor connected to the front panel power control. Now the rig is modulated at a higher level, in an RF stage without the harsh restrictions of the IF filtering.

Expect to have to realign the ALC, in order to unlock the full PEP potential.

It warnes you right on the Radio & Box in BIG letters.YAESU = Yet Another Excuse Simply Useless. As I have said before, they should stick to making antenna Rotors because they work great & I would Refuse to own any Yaesu Radio if I'm required to actually keep & use it even for FREE.I would never disrespect my ICOM radios with garbage in my shack or vehicle. :giggle::LOL::notworthy:

I would love to hear about the AM mods cause this one sounds like dammit on AM lol
I should also mention that my TS-940S (posted on the amwindow.net) and FT-1000D AM mods, are some of the few jobs I still take in for radio work. The first customers radio that was modified over 20 years ago, has been used everyplace from 75 to 11 and still works perfect today. My mod automatically switches itself inline on AM so nothing else needs to be adjusted or switched when changing modes.

The fidelity of the AM TX, now outperforms the good sounding SSB and the new AM modulator has the headroom to easily reach positive peaks in excess of 150%. If a forum member has either of these radios, already in perfect working order and is willing to have it fragile packed with FedEx, just send me a PM.

This thread is almost two years old now. Does anyone know if the issues have been resolved? I've been thinking about getting an ftdx 10. Price, size, and functions, cover what I'm looking for. But if the build quality is still being ignored I'll probably reconsider.

The headphone jack on my new FT-DX10 broke after using a couple of times. Not happy about it but other than that I like the radio very much. Too much trouble to get it repaired under warranty. I use the speaker jack now to plug in my headphones.

My IC-7300 has been trouble free for six years now.

It's a shame Yaesu quality has gone down the tubes and they apparently still ignore it. Really liked the ftdx-10 but think I'll mark it off the list.

I learned long ago when I bought my FT100d that yaesu were clowns & I would not be buying another new yaesu product,

The disgraceful bodge modifications they did to try to fix the pa oscillation / high vswr icon problem was un freaking believable,

They never sorted it even though they made a mess in everybody's radio with metal straps clips drilling the chassis & putting copper foil where its doing nothing at all or in places where its not needed,

I found the problem by accident, fixed it without doing any soldering or mods to the circuit board & had zero issues since,

I did another for a local & removed the yaesu clown™ mods & its still working without any oscillation issues,

They say every cloud has a silver lining, Some Yaesu Owners can add,

"over 20 years unpaid experience in product testing & troubleshooting for a multinational communications company" to their CV
It was over this very radio, that caused my great relationship with Yaesu to end. I have not purchased a new Yaesu radio since and sold off most of what I could. I still have a few Yaesu things here. but not nearly what I once had. I finally got them to replace my FT-100, 20 years ago and I sold it before opening it at a loss. Then I started to sell off all of my Yaesu gear, because I did not want to subsidize their parts department anymore. I had to order parts last year for a FT-817. It was a total nightmare. Thyey said they would get me back as a customer. Nope.... never again for me!

I have one FT-1000D station that I did not sell, of the three I had. I packed it when I moved almost 20 years ago and have not seen it since. I have to find it someday. FT-1000D w/2nd RX CW filter, SP-5 w/DSP-59Y, 232 interface and whatever else I still had. I recall returning one of my D's to Lentini, as one failed on contest day in 1995 or so and "Yaesuk" (as I call them now), replaced it.

Well I think everyone makes junk today. If they can get it made in China cheaply they will from component parts to boards to entire units.

They all want purple squirrels to work for them as well! Just like all of the engineering firms and design firms in Detroit!

They use less and less discrete components and more and more things are basically software defined.

It is getting foolish to pay top dollar today for most things because they are designed with planed obsolesces in mind instead of attempting to truly bridge the gap between performance and decent profit margin. Everything is biased towards max profit and regular turn over for maximum consumption.

They want 5x what the industry standard price would be for that battery just because they can charge it and amateur's with more money than brains will pay it. I am a terrible consumer when I was in middle school we where taught marketing, advertising and psy-op methods to arm us and make us critical thinkers and consumers!

I looked at a variety of HF radio's and while it does not have 6m which I would have liked I could not beat the G90 Chinessium radio. I intend to use it in my home as a base as my first true amateur radio. I will likely get a Baofeng as well to round things out. Not what I wanted for sure as my first choice but with the looming economic hardship coming it is a smart move. When Biden is out of office and we as a nation recover I can always upgrade!
