"New" President Washington consensus?

After the 880/980 fiasco with the failing screens and the Lincoln 2+ fiasco with the bad receive audio & other issues I have lost faith in President.
You can buy an Anytone/CRT/Radioddity or you can spend twice as much for half the radio and go with a President LOL.

I have heard the new Washington is OK, and they sound good on-air, but I won't spend money on President stuff anymore.
For many years now I won't buy anything built by RCI (Ranger, Galaxy, Connex etc.) either. I got burned years ago on a P.O.S. 2950 & a 2970. I spent more time and $ keeping those going than on every other radio I've ever owned combined.

It sure doesn't seem like the new Washington was received like they had expected. Reports show it is well made and performs well but it doesn't really offer more than lesser priced competitors out there. On the air I've talked to tons of Stryker, anytone, ranger amongst others but have yet to talk to anyone running a Washington yet. They've been out for a while so you'd think there would be several on the air. I would go an alternate route and I actually have. For the price there are what I think are better rigs.

I have talked to 3 stations that are running the new Washington. All three sounded great. Today I talked to 2112 in Florida He moved to a new town, and had a barefoot Washington in a temp setup. He was loud and clear in my receive as long as the Hi-power BigStrappers stayed off of him. So, transmit-wise, I think the new Washington is a winner. But it's gonna be hard for it to gain any traction because of all of the previous duds President put out there. Like Eldorado said, nice, but not for the price they're asking.

Hi group,
What is the general consensus on the President Washington? Buy or pass? Searched, but did not come up with much content.
Thank you!
My local neighbor (about fifteen-miles from my home) has the new Washington mobile and we have been "testing the water" with different RF power settings. His radio has the President external fan kit. With the RF Power dead-key set at six-watts and transmitting, the thermostatically controlled fans do not come on and the temperature of the radio case maintains between 82 - 84 degrees Fahrenheit. When the RF power is increased above six-watts and transmitting, the temperature of the case increases and the fans are activated. He has not attempted to increase the RF power to reach the advertised 80 PEP watts. Who knows what the temperature would be without the fans.

I learned long ago that the sticker that comes with the president radios adds 25% to the price , been that way for decades.
Somewhere between President Electronics of Belgium and the time CRT/Groupe President of France acquired the company the prices went up like gold.
My brother was going back and forth on a new washington recently but the QT-80 is on his bench instead.
And I can say it sounds good.

Thank you all for the comments and recommendations. I love my 1st. Gen. Lincoln. Too bad President thought the Lincoln II could take the Gen 1's place as a viable successor...
Not really "needing" another rig at the moment. Just thought the Washington would take it's place one day.
Thanks again!

A lot of folks crab about them but I ran a Lincoln II V3 (no +) on the road for 6 or 7 years and was quite happy with it. Had no issues to speak of. It's boxed up in the closet in case I ever need a "10 meter" :ROFLMAO: mobile again.

I praised the 2510, 2600, 2830/Lincoln , they were decent radios, covered 10-12 with the Chipswitch and fit in small places at a decent price.
By the time the HR series died, you couldn't find 2830's anymore and Lincolns became expensive, when the supply of mrf 477 dried up, they switched to 497's, and the price went up.
Last version had a small PC board mounted to the rear heat sink with a mrf 455 bolted to it and they were $300 + radios by then, and they pulled the plug.
The Jackson II classic came out, they used a Mitsubishi RD70HHF1 power amp module and got even more expensive....
The glory days of Uniden and President were already dieing by that time unfortunately.

I like mine, and so does a local fella I talk to. I use it with the Digi-Mike and he's given me feedback while switching between the President, FT-710, FT-891, and Kenwood 2000. He can hear me best when I'm on the President.

The new Washington is a great radio with great features. I have the George which is the little brother CB version and it has great audio. I usually have it driving a KL203 on side band and have talked all over when conditions are good.

As for the cost, the same features can be had in an Anytone for a lot less. I believe Anytone messed up President's plans on these.
