That's a good radio, especially if you want to use SSB mode for DX. I probably would disagree a little with AM power on whether or not you need a driver for that amp, especially with that radio. If you're using SSB, that radio will do around 50 watts with some moderate modifications. While that amount of drive won't give you the biggest numbers you can possibly see out of 4 2879's, it will achieve very good numbers, and it won't drive the transistors to the point of saturation. That's especially important for SSB. Also, keep in mind that SSB is a more efficient mode, so DX communication is quite a bit easier with less power. If you want to do a lot of AM mode DX, you'll probably need more power to be heard frequently.

Hi all, first off let me give you some history of my self. I havent ever gotten the c.b. "bug", that is until about a couple of months ago when a coworker that I carpool with had his c.b. on and I heard some skip comming in from Montana. I thought that was <img src=http://users.joplin.com/dutch64804/posticon51.gif ALT=":51"> as my brother ( who has the c.b. bug ) lives there and I was thinking about the prospect of maybe talking to him from here. Yes I do have a phone, but this would just be too kewl to be able to do this. Now for my questions. #1,I seen this auction on yahoo, page.auctions.shopping.ya...cview=user

and am wondering if this would be what I would need to be able to talk to him.

#2, Is the buy price a good deal? #3, would I have to get the "driver" to be able to talk skip. and finally #4, would I need the big alternator he also has or would my stock alt. work?
