Excellent idea for the test bench..but if he doesn't have access to test equipment...might be difficult. I was going to suggest sweeping the rx for freq response and tracing it down that way..but typically this is beyond the scope of the hobbyist.

You can use your home computer for that. Wire AM detector into line in socket through capacitor, than listen or scope it with computer.
