Some time back a friend of mine over in Tennessee got me interested in pic programming. Now I am no noob when it comes to programming Epsom’s ect. Been doing that for years on certain items and with commercial radio programming. It is just that pic programming from Microchip is a new learning experience. Anyway I bought the pic chips that my friend had suggested, bought a pickit II clone and then an original pickit II. My friend sent me some test boards and some DSS vfo boards he designed. Also sent me various software.

During this time I guess we both got busy and did not stay in touch like we once have. After a few months I got a bit caught up and tried contacting him. I later discovered he had passed. My friend was CARL MOTSINGER better known as “The2x4” and was owner of EFJ Devices. He was very sharp on this and was a great person.

After his passing I sort of lost interest in pic programming for a bit. You can say he was my “mentor” on this. Now I am interested in learning this. What I have in mind is to take a radio like the Siltronix 1011C and convert in to a programmable VFO. This is one thing I was gearing up to do with Carl’s help. I really think this would be a nice addition to older rigs of this type.

Anyone here do pic programming? Or use them in radio circuits?

Hello gentlemen and Ladies. I have the dreaded RCI-2990 receive issue where my radio gets distorted when people get close to my location. I found the C90 Capacitor, but I can not for the life of me find the C89 capacitor. Can or does anyone have a picture of the exact location of C89 ? Thank you in advance, Wes
