Did you even test the AM Regulator yet?
It is on the right side rail farthest in the back of the radio.
There is a companion part facing it that can also cause this condition if shorted - too . . .

It looks from the pictures that this radio still has the factory original electrolytic capacitors in it. At their age, consistent performance will be hard to achieve-both RX and TX.
If it were mine, I would recap it and align all functions.

My concern was this mess also. Can't tell if these are melted or just a mess.

The "mess" is probably just wax. It's used to try and get some thermal stability.

The "solder wick" between all of the tuning cans is a new one on me. I would think it to be someones attempt to "restore" a proper circuit board ground to the tuning cans??? If Uniden/President didn't think it necessary, why would it be there? But who's to know.

I do know I have never seen anything like that but perhaps I have lived a sheltered life.

At the age of this unit, you would be "protecting your investment" by recapping this unit now before more destructive things happen. It is a nice unit with great features.

WOW..... I also see a diode that I think is a swing mod back left corner. Also a spliced wire near the Mic. jack.

I sent it out to be repaired and SSB was working.

If you sent it out for repair and it came back not right then its up to the repair place to make it right.

Actually the seller/repair place is doing a full refund. So I'm good with that. Kinda sucks as I liked the rig. But not the headaches of multiple fixes.
