It would seem to me the congrats here go to the conditions, not the operator or the equipment.

Low power DX is all about the conditions.

BTW - what does QRP mean?

a lot of that depends on A) the quality of the wire/coax and B)diameter or wire/coax

I built a wire dipole out of nothing more than 10g wire and a connector, had far better results than with the belden quad coax, same length, same location, same everything....

especially with a setup like this...height is might, make sure you have the right length....and protect your connections!

haha - I knew that, I was just playing.

Of course you are correct in your statements Freecell, but conditions still are the main factor.

Let me rephrase - If I have a garbage station and great conditions, I will do much better than a great station with no conditions.

Boasting about DX is like saying "Look at the great present I was given." It is nice, but a product of the giver, not the receiver. All other things being equal, maw nature is the giver.

Oh I agree totally....but sometimes you have to do the best you can with what you've got, obviously use the best quality things you can but at the same time a little basic maintainence on said parts can make a big difference, I use an IMAX, beams shortly....but I still use the $5 dilpole from time to time for local(have never tried it for dx)

but the basic omni(IMAX) at the right height is a real talker as well....and should be for some time to come....I made sure I only have to do it once...repeat trips are no fun...sounds like you did a great job low power!

I like QRP operators. They are easy to key on. <img src=http://users.joplin.com/dutch64804/0pouce.gif ALT=":pounce"> <img src=http://users.joplin.com/dutch64804/posticon5.gif ALT=":p5"> <img src=http://users.joplin.com/dutch64804/posticon59.gif ALT=":59"> <img src=http://users.joplin.com/dutch64804/posticon26.gif ALT=":26">

Just kidding - LOL

beginning a 2:30 local time today we throttled back the power output on the Magnum 257B to 1 Watt PEP and worked the following stations in several minutes using the A99/GPK-1.

CDX-116/Pennsylvania/Our Signal = S5/S7

739/Cape Canaveral, FL/Our Signal = S3/S5

952 Mobile/Pennsylvania/Our Signal = S3/S5

528/Ohio/Our Signal = S5/S7

349/Pennsylvania/Our Signal = S1/S3

777/Sarasota, FL/Our Signal = S5/S7

2469/White Mountains, AZ/Our Signal = no reading but 100% audible over a 43 mile path on ground wave. frequency was 27.385lsb. the contacts were not pre-arranged. talk about using the minimum amount of power necessary to initiate and maintain the contact!

Tnx Bobcat115 for the new CDX station and the qrp contact.

don't know what you're using for a rig but it has some ears!
