I wanted to pass along this deal to others that may want a quality dynamic replacement mic. In the past I have purchased the Uniden BC645 electret condenser mics. This two pack of so called “walkie speaker mics” contain 500 ohm dynamic cartridges, not the same as the original BC645. They are pre wired for a 4 pin Cobra, yet maintain the same high quality cord and shell as the original BC645 electret condenser. For me this has not been an issue. I am always running short of quality stock mics of either type. I have ordered from this guy several times without any problems. He seems to have a fair quantity. After I receive these I usually keep one stock and convert the other over to electret. The last one I did, I added several electret cartridges in parallel like Shadetree Mechanic. Love the response......

That is a great deal, I will probably pick up a few. The mic feels good in the hand and the cord is nice and thick like the old school mics. I have the electret version of that mic, and it sounds great, but needs a little treble. I prefer to use an element from a telephone handset, has the perfect sound for voice communication. I had some fun a while back after I discovered it. I don't mean to hijack, just want to add some information for people who want to modify this mic.

Thanks for posting your thread!
I once added a few small (half the size of a pencil eraser) capsules salvaged from several defunct Chinese walkies. Those were gold plated, including the short leads. I figured since they were gold plated, they had to be of higher quality than normal. I was very satisfied with the crisp sound that mic produced. Although no extra capacitance was added, the bass was still rolled off somewhat.

I usually replace dynamic with electret. Resistor/cap inside radio and problem solved.
Mike
Mike, I have never modified a radio to accept an electret. Is the idea to 1) add the resistor to tie power to the audio line, and 2) the cap is to pick the mic audio off of the audio line and pass it on to mic amps? I'm guessing so ... but it never hurts to ask....
