To celebrate their 13th Anniversary, Radioddity is giving away a brand new GD-168 VHF/UHF handheld radio! This is a 5 watt, dual channel radio that supports both Analog and DMR, with built-in APRS and Satellite tracking

This contest will have a new set of rules:
  • Any worldwidedx.com member may enter.
  • To enter, as a tribute to Radioddity's anniversary, reply to the thread: What year and why did you get into the Radio Hobby?
  • Once you have added your post to the "Anniversary thread", reply here that you understand the rules and wish to enter the contest, including a link to your post.
  • Here's where it gets interesting:
    • Regular members get 1 entry in the drawing by posting their story.
    • Premium members get 2 entries in the drawing by posting their story. If you are interested in supporting the site by becoming a premium member, information is at: https://www.worldwidedx.com/account/upgrades
    • All members get 1 additional entry if pics of anything radio related are included.
  • One winner will be chosen at random by Microsoft Copilot on August 31st.

2003 is when I dove in and geeked out on radio. 2003 until 2010 only to come back even deeper in 2014 and still in it.

I'm a newbie in comparison to other forum members.

I got into radio in 1976, and I was 12 at the time. My Dad bought a Johnson 123SJ with the "cool" LED S Meter, and a mirror mount antenna for his '72 Chevy Cheyenne pickup. His call sign was KNH-5711, and I spent most of the time asking for a radio check and a 10-36. :LOL: Once I got over the newbie jitters, my friends and I used to do our homework over the air after school on channel 1.

Later on, my Dad got a Browning Brownie and a Radio Shack magnet mount antenna back from my Grandpa, since he didn't like talking on the CB. Dad gave me that radio, and I hooked it up in my bedroom...
