The fans run full boar when plugged into the radio, they're loud and unnecessary when it's just receiving.

I'm thinking a 3 position switch a resistor to give low off and high.

Has anybody tried that and can give me some advice with the mod?

I'm all ears!

I have used 12v fan speed controller from amazon before wired inline. May not be what you are looking for but thought i would mention it.

Hey, I appreciate that suggestion. I didn't know about that so I'm going to look at that option now.

That radio really doesn't need fans. The original version of that radio had an analog series-pass regulator dumping heat into the heat sink, along with the bridge rectifier. This pumped at least double the heat energy into that heat sink as the modern version. Only the linear resides on the heat sink now. The heat from the linear alone won't overheat it unless you tie a rubber band around the mike and walk away.

RCI made the fan a factory feature only after changing the power supply to a chinesium switchmode brick that doesn't dump any heat into the heat sink.

Go figure.

I used like a 2 Watt 100ohm pot wired in series with a power leg on the fan. Mounted pot on the back with Knob. Nice variable speed controller.

Hello gentlemen and Ladies. I have the dreaded RCI-2990 receive issue where my radio gets distorted when people get close to my location. I found the C90 Capacitor, but I can not for the life of me find the C89 capacitor. Can or does anyone have a picture of the exact location of C89 ? Thank you in advance, Wes
