Real CB Radios are side mic

Yeah, those Galaxies are getting harder to find. It's only a matter of time.
I guess what I like best about the Galaxy 959, 2547, and the rest of their radios with a frequency counter, is that they are actually a frequency counter, not a frequency display like the 2950's etc. And they are pretty accurate out of the box.

When any of my side mic radios has just the mic cord sticking out with some bogus strain relief or grommet. I change those over to a 4 pin standard jack. Also, regardless of the radios jack location, unless I convert them, DIN radios are not allowed in my shack either.

Just read back through this whole thing, and wow, we sure did have some fun. And yes lots of friends that aren't here anymore, for one reason or another.

We had a side mic discussion in another thread called 86v Mods and I came up with a story off the top of my head, if you can believe that. I will repost it here:

I think the whole "Side Mic" thing started many, many years ago. Back in the day when a mic could come from most anywhere on a radio, like the bottom or the back. There was a gal named "Side Mic Sally" who caused quite a stir. The questionable things about her are indeed quite unmentionable, and therefore became good gossip. Sally was eventually able to live down her reputation as she is no longer with us, but the radios made with a side mic are still around to enjoy the fame. The fame now mostly reduced to a wives tale that is squaked about only in the beauty parlor at the end of town.

The 86v is showing that "Side Mic" is a thing no more.......
