Realistic / Radio Shack TRC-465 AM Regulator alternate transistor?

Hello,

I do have a some Motorola 2n6124 transistors that I have used in a couple of my TRC-465 radios. I was wondering if a better alternative is the TIP42C? Unless the TIP42C is not ideal to use as the AM regulator.

BD250C or better NPC-RC with RWOB
