I’ve used the Weller wes51 for about 10 years. This is my second and it’s time to replace it. I’d like to upgrade. I’ve replaced the iron a a few times and many tips. They don’t last.

Recommendations for the best units under $300, please.

    Mostly through board components.

Hakko FX888D is certainly the iron that gets the most positive comments.
I use an old Weller TC202, and recently bought a cheap Chinese Hakko 936 clone, as well as a hot air station for IC and SMD work. But if I was to buy new and had to use it everyday, I would do the Hakko . . .

I’m looking at the Hakko 951. Tips = Copper-iron chrome alloy. (?) Ive never had to know anything about tips. I’ve always just replaced my Weller tips with OEM tips and I think they’re stainless. 5067D7F7-1496-48B5-8BF9-4A8EA4233CD7.jpeg 971D38C4-6E27-4B70-81E7-3513B1837058.jpeg

Ok done deal. Ordered the 951-66. Almost went with the 203 dual iron but after all the $20/tips, it gets up there. Thanks for the input.
