Royce electronics

got a brand new at the time 604 out of a wrecked mustang i bought for the engine.
the seat was pushed into the dash hiding it.i doubt the yard would have missed it otherwise.nice windfall for a 14 year old.it survived being run on zipcord dipoles that while were cut to the right length were never checked with a bridge, being run on a junk car battery and trickle charger that mostly cleaned up the hum,and being run on a moped with a 1/4w steel whip and nicad packs robbed from those otherwise worthless black&decker grass clippers.they were charged right off the lighting mag with some radio shack diodes from a $.59 assortment.it lived in spite of all i subjected it to.
so it had to be atleast a half decent rig.

I currently have 624 (23ch) and 625 (40ch) AM-only base units, a 641 and 642 base and a pair of 639s - along with a few other accessories such as the desk mic.

One thing to keep in mind about these rigs: They're single-conversion and the receivers are subject to image interference from SWBC and ute operations in the 7.3-7.6MHz area, as the math happens to work out. My first Royce base - a 641 - readily copied a strong RTTY station on CH32; when I had the 642 inline a year or so back and 40M was percolating in the afternoon I found another one a little lower in the channel range...along with a couple SWBC images.

A T connector inserted into the coax line and equipped with a tunable series trap on one of its ports will fix the problem if you encounter it. So will the use of a good coaxial bandpass filter.

My very first CB was a Royce 611! Was found in the trash and looked as if it was in a fire.... but it worked! They were good rigs but not great! and I think there were some shining examples! :w00t:
I still have it but I do not think it is working any more and more of a keepsake....

That 23 channel Royce 1-640 Base radio had a MSRP of $449.95 dollars back in 1975.
It was the Top of the line Royce Base radio, that was a lot of cash back in the day.

I have a Royce 639 in my truck as my everyday radio. Bought it off EBay without a power cord. Love it. I am currently looking for a 642 base for the house.

Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I997 using Tapatalk 2

You cant wire a power mic to a Royce....

Because....??
What I is that I don't know enough about Royce's other than I knew someone who had one with the modulation wide open. It keyed 2 watts and swing 10. It was so loud that I could hardly make out what he was saying. It was understandable twenty miles away

Now that's interesting....a Royce picking up stuff like this....I guess Royce radios must have been sold new at K Mart or maybe Zayre.

Antenna length on my mobile. So I’ve had 3 different radios in my truck. 2006 f250 super duty. 29ltd NW, 29 ltd clasic, and now a galaxy DX44HP. My steel whip is somewhere around 89”. Which I know is way to short. But show 1.2 SWR on all 3 radios. And I have a a bench SWR meter that shows the same results. Which I find odd and disturbing. Note the frequency is 27.205. The longer I make the whip the higher the SWR. At 102” it’s up around 2.5. Which totally blows any of my experience i have with mobile radio antennas. I have the antenna mounted to a post just higher than the cab. I’ve swapped the jump through several to different ones. Even tried lug and so239. Connections at the antenna. Seems to transmit well and receives well. Any ideas how this could be possible?

Turns out I was missing the ground to the cab. Problem solved. Now have 102” exact and 1.2 SWR 26.005 megahertz through 28.005 megahertz. Pictures posted on my profile.
