Running new coax, needing advice

I have commited to rewiring my amp and running new coax. Not that I may or may not notice a difference but, Would I be better off using RG-213/U or just have some new runs of RG-8X made?

how long of a coax run?

take a look at LMR 400 specs VS 213u, rg8x, ect.

how big is you wallet?

It depends a great deal on how loud your wallet screams and how much a very, very slight bit of loss is worth. If the run is something over 100 feet, I would probably use that '213. For less than about 100 feet, it isn't going to make enough difference to make any difference at all. Up to you...

Sorry guys, I left out a very important detail.......This is a mobile application with a total of 12' so my wallet may let out only a wimper. Although @ $2.50/' The 34' of 4 gauge power wire sure will sting awhile. which brings up another question if I may, If Texas star states a 45 amp draw for the 500V why do they ship the amp with only 10 gauge wire? I am considering opening the amp and replacing the 10 with 4, Am I just splitting hairs or would this be beneficial?

I did that with the amp I just took out of my truck. It came with 6ga leads and I ran 4ga. So I added 4ga leads to the amp as well.

Thanks 359, I appreciate all the help I can get. I'll be sending the amp off for this upgrade as I really don't want to screw anything up. I do have a good start on the install though.

I wouldn't put anything over a 6 awg cable on that amp as it will not be of any benefit.

I would just use mini 8x coax in a mobile setup with that amount of power, I ran a 2x4 amp making 800 watts pep or so and never had any issues.

4 AWG for car audio is cheap and easy to find though.

I got about 100 ft of it as "remnants" on ebay for $20.

larger cable = larger connector = mo monies

Not cost effective and totally unnecessary.

Thanks Mack, I hate to spend more than I have to but, I have gone to great lenghts with every other aspect of my installation and I would hate to know it could be just a little better if I had used a different coax.

i gree with mack. checkout the power handling capabilitys first
if mini8 [gray stuff] will handle the output then id use it. if not
id upgrade to standard to regular rg8.at only 12 feet there wont be
much/if any loss using standard rg8x or rg8.only way id buy rg213
or lmr400 or similiar if i was using thousands and thosands of watts
and needed coax that could handle it.
