Soldering iron suggestions?

No shwag, though! I find it strange how many hams have never even heard of Hakko, Metcal, or JBC.

Yeah that’s not bad at all. Easier to justify spending money on expensive tools if they earn you money back. Well, it’s easier to convince a spouse if you can say you’ll make money with it.

Otherwise you secretly buy it and then say “oh I e had that a long time, don’t you remember it?”.

Well it would be nice if they’d work but I don’t really need them, I usually only use two temps and the second is rarely used. I can’t complain about it, it’s a great iron for the money and I’ve had zero issues with it.

Now for MacBook work, that MetCal would probably be a better choice. Or a much finer tip than what I’ve been trying to use would work and the Hakko would be fine as well. Actually, this is where hot air outshines the competition but you better have some Kapton tape.

Nothing ruins your day like watching tiny crap blow across the bench and out of sight. Haha.

Yes. I have tips everywhere from tiny SMT use all the way up to big spades that easily do coax connectors.
