ssb etique on 11 meters

clear

I calibrated the 959's modulation meter with a new RedmansCB modulation meter I just bought. I have a low tone voice and the meter does 100% modulation on average with peaks over 100%. I have the low&high dead key set for 1&4 watts so it can swing and no,it hasn't been swing modded. It might be distorting to a discerning ears but my brother was impressed. :pop:

I would be VERY careful using a power mic with these Galaxy DX radios, My 979 has all the modulation it needs and more, just using the stock mic. These radio are known for many things, but being under powered and wimpy is not one of them.

The Clarifier mod on these radios is fairly easy to do (as long as you have a steady hand), and there is a good video on youtube to show you how to do it.

If you can find one, the astatic 575m6 d104 is one of the best mic's you can use on the galaxy and rangers, plus many more.

Been using one on my galaxy and ranger and would not use any other mic.

There's one on Ebay. I didn't know about that one. I did research on current mics. Thr Road Devil came in a close second but after listening to different people on the web demonstrate the 2018,I was hooked. It had the volume, clarity, and a noise cancelling switch. It even louder than my K40 Speech Processor mic I still have that I bought in the early Eighties. I used to have a TUG9 with the adjustment pot sticking out of the base where a hole had been drilled and a knob was added so you could do quick adjustments.I ran that on my Galaxy 2100 and used it as a base radio. :pop:

I never understood this, I'm not a fan of amplified mics but when I've used them, it was set it and forget it.Why would you need to "do quick adjustments"?

quick adjustments

The guy that sold it to me said it was used for talking on ssb plus he liked to tinker on things and then sell them to me. A four switch in-line signal attenuator was another. He also tuned my TRC-428 Nine scan(still have) but needs tlc to bring it back to life. The topside adjustment on the TUG9 was I guess useful especially for those who were long winded in order to keep the modulation at a set point as the battery would slowly run down. (y)

The latest prediction from NOAA/USAF is for solar flux at 95 on December 7, 100 on December 8-9, 105 on December 10, 110 on December 11-12, 115 on December 13-14, 135 on December 15-17, then 130, 125 and 120 on December 18-20, 115 on December 21-23, 110 on December 24-27, 100 on December 28-29, 105 and 115 on December 30-31, 125 on January 1-2, 130 on January 3-7, and 135 on January 8-13.

Lil'Yeshua:
Conditions are still low - sun spots dropped almost in half Thursday/Friday.
Predicted to top out on Dec 15-17 weekend then go back down till Jan

38 LSB is a mess most times - its a good check to see where conditions are
heading - If I hear West coast, know to listen for 41 43 Pacific div's - South I listen for 3 4 5 S America/W Indie div's.

With just stock power I would head north above 40 to have a better chance
at DX - many guy's on here have made >10k miles qso's with stock power.

When echo is used it just makes it harder to understand - I hear the echo I qsy to find another dx contact. Hear a lot 10 div using the echo/rev.

You could use echo and reverb on SSB but why would you want to? All it does is makes you difficult to understand on SSB.

And yes that's probably one of several reasons no one was talking to you. SSB tends to be more for the adults of CB. The kids have the other 34 channels on AM to play on.

loud 959

That's why it's on it's way to DTB Radios to get tuned and aligned and get a transmit mod and a receive mod and a viagra mod and a open clarifier mod. I do have a new Redmans CB lighted modlation to monitor my modulation. I have a low tone voice. The way I had it set up before I sent it off to get aligned was that the modulation was doing 100% avg. And over 100% on peaks. With the RF Limited 2018 Turbo Xtreme power mic,the modulation on receiving radios,it was very loud but clear. I did my reseach on power mics before I bought one. The Road Devil came in a close second. I made my decision after watching Triple 7 on youTube do mic tests. Xtreme 2018 & Astatic 636L Microphone Test - YouTube or Xtreme 2018 & Astatic 636L Microphone Test - YouTube
